Student Bodies (1981) 7.5/10 - I thought this film is really ridiciously fun. I actually didn't realize it was kinda parody film until it showed the title in the beginning and then it claims 'Halloween' which means it takes place on 31, October, but then next says 'Friday the 13th' and last 'Jamie Lee Curtis' birthday'. And I was like what the fuck. It was really dumb, but yet, I had a fun watching it. I thought the kills are great, but seriously, students are being killed off because they're.. having sex? One of the funniest explanations why did they kill those students. It has many hilarious lines and the funniest one from a movie is "I'm doing what my mommy told me not to do!" lol. I thought it was great, but the ending is kinda not good. It's not better than Scary Movie, but if you liked that film, you should definitely see it. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. Children of the Corn (1984) 8/10 - For me it was a goosebumps film. It was fun, cheesy, ridiciosuly funny, pretty atmospheric and creepy film. The opening scene with the children killing their parents was really terrifying. I thought the children were great, especially the villain one. Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice 7.5/10 - I saw it without checking out the rating. I was expecting it has between 4.8 and 5.1 rating, but it actually have 4.2/10. It was cheesy indeed, but however, it was really fun as the original with better and creepier kills. I also like the casting. It definitely deserves better rating. Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest 7/10 - I expected maybe 4.1/10 and I was right. I was very excited to see because Charlize Theron is in it, since she was like 18 years old and it's her first film. She was in it for like 30 seconds lol, but to be honest, she looks so MUCH hotter now than she used to be from it. But however, it was still fun sequel. The ending is just ridiculously bad, crap special effects and monster, but I still enjoyed it. Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering 6.5/10 - I was expecting 4.4 rating, but it has 4.3/10. I was surprised that Naomi Watts plays a main character in it, but she was good as usual. It was less cheesy and more well done than previous sequels. It was still mildly solid, but nothing special. I'm still counting with the series. The Disaster Artist (2017) 10/10 - Haha, what an excellent comedy/drama film. I laughed and cired, James Franco was incredibly good. I also liked Dave's performance and the whole casting. James Franco not being nominated an Oscar is a shame. Ive seen a couple of Children of the corn films but wasnt a fan The Disaster Artist was good fun though 7/10

Yours: Iron Man - 8/10 Lord of the Flies - 7/10
Mine:
First Time Viewings:
I, Robot (2004) - Blu-ray Saw this many times on TV but never sat through the entire thing. It's a decent sci-fi thriller and Will Smith was great. 7/10
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) - Netflix I'm continuing to watch Edgar Wright's works. This is a very fun comic based superhero-esque comedy, and MEW is gorgeous. 8/10
Repeat Viewings:
Phantasm (1979) - DVD Bought the entire DVD collection of this franchise. Still as solid as I first saw it. 8/10
Thor: Ragnarok (2017) - DVD 8/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) - Blu-ray Childhood favourite. 8/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991) - Blu-ray Very dated with 90s stuff and a bit too childish but still a fun sequel. 6.5/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993) - Blu-ray A little underrated as I don't find it to be too bad but still the weakest in the trilogy. 6/10
Carrie (1976) - DVD Oh yeah. The first horror film I ever witnessed and I still love it today. A classic. 8/10

Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your hosts (us) posts our weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. We will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film. FIRST TIME MOVIE VIEWING
Ghost in the Shell (2017, Rupert Sanders) tv
This film is based on the Japanese Anime and is set in the near future where a human (Scarlet Johansson) is saved from a terrible crash and then cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world's most dangerous criminals. I have not seen the original anime from start to finish so I was just looking at the film on its singular merits and it was better than I expected. Sure some of the design and effects work feels kinda cheap as well as the audio mix being underwhelming but there is something compelling about the main character and the journey she is on. 6/10 The House (2017, Andrew Jay Cohen) tv
This over the top comedy has an over the top premise that see's a couple (Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler) who after the town takes away their daughter's college scholarship, start an illegal casino in their friend's house to make back the money. It has a few moments and the R rated violence helps but ultimately a time waster. 4.5/10 Mercury Rising (1988, Harold Becker) tv
Forgettable Bruce Willis thriller that sees Shadowy elements in the NSA target a nine-year old autistic savant for death when he is able to decipher a top secret code. 4/10 REPEAT MOVIE VIEWING
Iron Man (2008, Jon Favreau) blu ray
The one that started it all (the MCU) still holds up as one of the finest super hero films made. Great casting and structured storytelling makes for a fun viewing. I wish marvel still made them more like this. 8/10 Lord of the Flies (1990, Harry Hook) tvBased on the classic William Golding novel of the same name, this is the second English language adaptation which follows a group of school boys who degenerate into savagery after being stranded on an island. There are some good child performances in this well crafted film, it is slightly different from the book and the original film but it still works. 6/10 Dodgeball (2004, Rawson Marshall Thurber) tv
I had only seen this once before and did not really care for it, this time I liked it a little more but found some of the characters too over the top, especially the antagonists. 4.5/10 Man on Fire (2004, Tony Scott) tv
This is the 2nd film adaptation of the novel of the same name, this time featuring Denzel Washington in the lead role as aformer assassin who swears vengeance on those who committed an unspeakable act against the family he was hired to protect. Half way through director Tony Scott's career he switched to a more MTV fast edit style of film making which I never cared for but this is that style at its worst. It is an ungly ess of a film in that respect but still has some good performances... however Radha Mitchell is really bad in this. 4/10 WEEKLY AWARDS
BEST FILM: Iron Man BEST ACTOR: Rpbert Downy Jr. - Iron Man BEST ACTRESS: Scarlet Johansson - Ghost in the Shell BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Danuel Pipoly - Lord of the Flies BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Dakota Fanning - Man on Fire BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Martin Fuhrer - Lord of the Flies BEST SCRIPT: Jay Presson Allen - Lord of the Flies BEST SCORE: Phillipe Sarde - Lord of the Flies BEST DIRECTOR: Jon Favreau - Iron Man 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive too Hi, Dark. Yours: Ghost on the Shell 6.5/10 Yeah, it's not bad, I prefer the anime though. Loved Takeshi Kitano. Mercury Rising 5/10 Saw it ages ago, I remember not liking it much. Iron Man 8/10 Yeah, I liked it. Robert Downey Jr. was great, he has great chemistry with Gwyneth Paltrow, IMO. Dodgeball 7.5/10 I don't remember it that well. I remember thinking it was fun. Man on Fire 7/10 I thought it was O.K. Yeah, the cast was great. Mine: Frankie & Johnny 7/10 The movie with Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer. I liked it more than I remembered, some parts feel a bit cheesy, but it's O.K. Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer are good together. The Man with the X-Rays Eyes 8/10 It's Roger Corman movie, with Ray Milland, about a scientist who experiments on himself a way to get X-Ray vision, it's pretty good, the ending is really great, so powerful. I heard Stephen King is a big fan. Frankenstein (1931) 8/10 The original. I liked it, it's very beautiful visually. Boris Karloff is really good as the monster. My Night with Maud 9/10 It's an Eric Rohmer movie with Jean Louis Trintignant, about a Catholic man who's kind of torn between a beautiful divorced woman he met one night, and a girl, who's Catholic like him. I think it's really a beautiful movie. It's basically a series of conversation about love, religion, sex, philosophy, life, it really sucked me in. It's very beautiful visually too. Francoise Fabian, who played the divorced woman, is amazing, and so gorgeous.

First Viewings...
-Revenge (2017-2018) (May 12th 2018) - 4-4.5/10 (basically the best thing about it is the general visuals of the movie but overall it does not work)
Re-watches...
nothing this week
p.s. 5/10 or less = Thumbs Down. 6/10 or higher = Thumbs Up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
OP's...
-Mercury Rising (1998) - 5/10 (forgettable, but could be worse.)
-Iron Man (2008) - 5/10 (enjoyable enough for a one time viewing but I never had any desire to see this again. basically... there are not many super hero movies worth re-watching for me and the ones that are tend to be of the non-Marvel type pretty much)
-Dodgeball (2004) - 5/10 (basically it's not bad but ultimately forgettable) -Man on Fire (2004) - 5/10 (used to be a 9/10 for me for years until July 27th 2015 viewing. still, I think Tony Scott has Ridley Scott comfortably beat as he's got more movies that stand out from the pack than Ridley does if you ask me. but in terms of the four movies Denzel and Tony Scott did together... Deja Vu (2006) (7/10) is their best movie hands down at this point as the other three are forgettable)

Yeah, I can see that. it's kind of good in a way, like it's visuals etc are good(like the director has potential I think if given the right material etc), but the overall movie just don't click for me. but I suspect that's why some people think it stands out as while the general idea of the movie has been done before, it's the general style/visuals/setting that boost it a bit. but since I did not mention it before... it gets pretty weak (as in kind of boring) at times which damaged the overall movie for me and is pretty much reason why I went with a 4/10 instead of a 5/10. but it's better parts were at least decent enough for a viewing I could say. just some random thoughts

(2017 DVD): ‘’ A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.’’ This movie is from my favorite director, it has an actor I love and an actress that I rarely enjoy. I liked Lawrence in American Hustle and Silver linings but I never thought I would enjoy a 2h movie that mostly consists of a camera following her in a house. Mother! is like a bad dream. Mother! is like a great nightmare. I watched it on Monday night and at the end I was like: ’’this was a crazy ride and I enjoyed it but WTF just happened!?’’ I figured a few symbols out but then I read the entire meaning of the film on the internet and it just made me love it more. Then, the day after, I watched it again! That almost never happens. If I had one critic; turn the lights off because it’s dark. Fun fact: there is no soundtrack whatsoever. My rating: 8.5-9/10
Mayhem (2017 DVD): ‘’ A virus spreads through an office complex causing white collar workers to act out their worst impulses.’’ This one never reaches its full potential, not even half of it, sadly. The actors are doing a good job but the script, the cinematography and the overall experience was too weak to be worth the time and money invested. 5/10
An American Experience: Tesla (2016 Netflix): ‘’ Meet Nikola Tesla, the genius engineer and tireless inventor whose technology revolutionized the electrical age of the 20th century. Although eclipsed in fame by Edison and Marconi, it was Tesla's vision that paved the way for today's wireless world. His fertile but undisciplined imagination was the source of his genius but also his downfall, as the image of Tesla as a mad scientist came to overshadow his reputation as a brilliant innovator.’’ 7/10
Planes: Fire and Rescue (2014 Netflix): “ When Dusty learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he joins a forest fire and rescue unit to be trained as a firefighter, or else his air strip will be shut down.” Some scenes are good but it mostly feels like a TV show for children. 5.5/10

Iron Man - still one of the best MCU movies. 7.5/10 I know I saw at least part of Man on Fire on TV several years ago. Not sure if I saw the whole thing though. First Time Viewings:
Game Night (2018, John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein) This one has a good cast and is quite funny and entertaining throughout. Towards the end there are a couple twists that felt a bit unnecessary, but I didn't mind them too much, even if they did hurt the film a bit, just by making it more unrealistic. Still I had a good time with this one. 7/10
The Croods (2013, Kirk De Micco & Chris Sanders) This animated film from DreamWorks has a solid story, a good score, fun characters, and a good voice cast. Fun movie. 7/10
Cat People (1982, Paul Schrader) I liked how this one wasn't just the same movie as the original. This one is well made and acted and has some really good scenes here and there. Good score too and the David Bowie song is great too. 7/10
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938, Michael Curtiz & William Keighley) This early take on the classic tale of Robin Hood is quite fun. It looks great, has a strong cast, and is well paced and entertaining throughout. 7.5/10
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991, Kevin Reynolds) This one definitely has some good stuff in it, but it didn't quite work for me. I found Costner's Robin Hood a bit bland and the film just felt too long to me. Alan Rickman is very entertaining and the score is really good though. 6.5/10
Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993, Mel Brooks) I know I saw part of this on TV when I was a kid, but after watching it I don't think I watched the whole thing. I thought it was pretty funny and entertaining throughout. Sure it's silly, but I had fun with it. 7/10
Night Gallery (1969, Boris Sagal, Steven Spielberg, and Barry Shear) This made for TV movie served as the pilot episode for the series of the same name. It has three segements and I liked all three, but I'm hoping the show is better. 7/10
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (2012, Eric Darnell & Tom McGrath) This one is a pretty lackluster sequel if you ask me. I like the main characters (though not as much as I do in the first one) and the film is fairly short, so it's still a pretty easy watch at least. 5.5/10
Morning Glory (1933, Lowell Sherman) Katharine Hepburn won her first Oscar for this one and it's her wonderful performance that carries the film. There are a few really good scenes, but Hepburn is what makes it work. 7/10
Repeat Viewings:
Blade Runner (1982, Ridley Scott) Great stuff. 9/10
Blade Runner 2049 (2017, Denis Villeneuve) Fantastic sequel. 9/10
A Clockwork Orange (1971, Stanley Kubrick) Classic Kubrick. 9/10
Madagascar (2005, Eric Darnell & Tom McGrath) I always enjoyed this when I was a kid, but I wasn't sure how it would hold up now. I'm happy to say that I still find this to be an enjoyable animated film. It has lots of fun characters, some good laughs, and some references to other movies and shows that I definitely didn't get when I was younger. 7/10
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008, Eric Darnell & Tom McGrath) I'm pretty sure I'd only seen this one once or twice before this and I didn't remember much about it. It's not a very good sequel, but I guess it could have been worse. The story is just kind of weak. 5.5/10
Repeat TV Viewings:
True Detective: Season 1 (2014) Brilliant. 10/10
Movie Awards:
BEST FILM - A Clockwork Orange BEST ACTOR - Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) BEST ACTRESS - Katharine Hepburn (Morning Glory) BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Sean Young (Blade Runner) BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY - Jordan Cronenweth (Blade Runner) BEST SCORE - Vangelis (Blade Runner) BEST SCRIPT - Stanley Kubrick (A Clockwork Orange) BEST DIRECTOR - Ridley Scott (Blade Runner) The Croods: 6/10 Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves : 7.5/10 Mans in thights: 7/10 Blade Runner: 9/10 Clockwork Orange: 10/10 Madagascar: 6.5/10 M2: 6.5/10 M3: 6/10 Moi: Mother!
