None of the movies would've worked without both RIGGS & MURTAUGH. The show follows the footsteps of the movie while still being its own thing... so it's hard to say if the same "rule" applies to it.
Well, at least Seann is a good actor.

I don’t watch the show, but if Crawford was indeed causing issues on set I think he should have been fired. The cast and crew shouldn’t have to deal with that. Scott is good enough to replace him. They should just make his character Rigg’s brother.

I liked the character of Murtaugh and the actor who plays him, and from the beginning I disliked both the character of Riggs and this Crawford guy, so this is a positive change in my opinion. I might even start watching the show again (I stopped after a few episodes on season 2).

They should have just cast him as Martin Riggs, no a new character. There is no Lethal Weapon without Riggs (he is the Lethal Weapon). The show was bad before but it won't be any better now.

"Clayne"?
Good for SWS. Or bad, idk. In another universe, he's playing Deadpool right now.

Haven't seen the show yet but I love me some Seann William Scott, so I'm very happy with this news.

I think that would be too distracting. I don't see why it should be. I think most people would be able to make the mental leap that Riggs is now being played by a different actor. They could have an in-joke at the beginning of the first episode where Murtaugh sees Riggs and says "What happened to you? You look different" and Riggs looks at his own reflection and replies "I look the same as I did yesterday". I think changing to a different character with (presumably) a different personality and a different back story will be far more distracting.

Their dynamic and chemistry is what made the show, though, and I worry that will be gone.
