That actually looks pretty good. Has that Shane Black/Steven Soderbergh vibe to it.

Not bad. I'm getting 'Three Billboards' vibes from this.
I thought the title was dumb and that it would just be a Oscar bait, but I'm actually looking forward to this after that trailer.

The guy's Denzel Washington's son? That's why he sounded familiar.

Unfortunately, it probably will underperform like The Nice Guys or Logan Lucky and Detroit did. That's the problem with intelligent, independent movies made for thinking adults--no one sees them, yet everyone complains about big summer blockbusters and super hero movies taking over the industry. You have to support the good stuff by purchasing tickets or fewer and fewer of them will get made. I'd add the recent Tully to that list.

Yeah I'm sick of that.

Yeah I'm sick of that. Seconded. I hate to say it, but it would probably do better on a direct to Netflix release. I never really trust IMDb's rating system. Too many people vote either 10 or 1 to throw the score.

It's two different problems. On one hand, people are tired of infantile FX-driven escapist films that are poorly made (aka ones that have a modern liberal POV). On the other hand, they also don't want slice of life films that are political screeds (again, modern liberal POV). Art has got to reflect the tastes and desires of the audience and also be relevant to real life in some way. Trouble is Hollywood is trying to make a one size fits all film without taking into account the interests of specific audiences-and they are not interested in dealing with reality (especially on things like race). It was different in 1966 when Ted V Mikels the Black Klansman was made, since it catered to a small specific audience. These days they are trying to market niche market films to everyone. Just doesn't work and never will.

The guy's Denzel Washington's son? That's why he sounded familiar. He's really good in Ballers in my opinion.
