Well, that wouldn't be entirely accurate. TLJ addressed some of the criticisms of TFA by making Rey a more flawed character and subverting the formula instead of just rehashing it. But Star Wars fans bitched anyway. They shouldn't have to be told this by fans or anyone. That's Filmmaking 101 stuff - give the protagonist an arc (which comes with inherent flaws in the character) and make your own movie, not a copy of something older and better.

Well, apparently ignoring Filmmaking 101 will get you nearly two billion dollars and positive reviews from both fans and critics, while taking risks with the formula and making your characters imperfect (to the point that failure is a theme of the movie) will just alienate the fans you already do have while the vocal minority you aimed to win over complain anyway. Betcha Disney won't be trying that s**t again! Oh, TFA. If only you could have given Rey the intricate flaws of ANH Luke and TPM Anakin.

Just doing it doesn't automatically make it work, but it's better than the alternative. I hated TLJ, but at least I can respect it for having some creative substance with both character and filmmaking techniques. You mention Luke in ANH, and he's far from a complex and intricate character, but he held my interest for an entire trilogy. Rey hasn't done that with the first two movies of her own trilogy. Anakin sucked in TPM, but he became far more intriguing in AotC and RotS. Maybe they can do the same with Rey.

Eventually, the Disney assholes are going to learn their "Fuck the Fans We Have a Political Agenda" attitude will lose them money. Then idiots will be fired. But look at CNN. Taking massive rating hits and where is the executive or sponsor outrage forcing them to change so they do not keep losing viewers? I thought it was about making money? I think the chances of anyone getting fired is remote. The political agenda is first, profit is not. According to their claims, the SJW agenda-centered movies is creating record profits. Even if they are lying and I think they are, that means it will be some time before they even reach a point where they could acknowledge problems in order to change. They have a lot more revenue streams than CNN does to cover any losses in Star Wars profits that may occur. And I do not think they are capable of self-criticism. I just wonder at what point their various media purchases will be considered anti-competition? It should have been the case decades ago. And Disney's wants to eliminate the public domain. Sounds like they want to corner the market on all media and prevent anyone from doing anything without their permission. Isn't that how the Emperor worked?

You know, I have been hearing this fucked up argument for two decades now, and I am still trying to figure who exactly "Star Wars" fans are, and those who are not...
People who claim that they are die hard fans, do nothing but bitch and complain about every little thing, and saying that they didn't like anything about some of the newer movies...
They keep referring to "A New Hope" and "Empire Strikes Back" as the best films ever made, even when comparing them them to other franchises... and then when Disney even tries to make a movie that is similar to those first two, they still bitch.
These people just make grand speeches about not seeing any more films, and I doubt that any movie, no matter how well it was made, would ever satisfy them...
Then there are people like me. I grew up with the original trilogy, and yes, "A New Hope" and "Empire Strikes Back" are definitely at the top of the list for me...
But I know, that no matter what new movie comes out, I can't see how it can be anywhere as good as "Empire Strikes Back". For me, it is just perfect. So any future movie HAS TO BE of lesser quality... And when I see the newer films, I expect that...
However, I still find many things about the movies that I enjoy...
I's rather watch the worst Star Wars film, instead of, the "So-Called Best" movie of many other movie franchises... Any Day!... More stories, more of my favorite characters...It's a no brainer decision!
But, because I don't hate some of the prequel films, and the newer films...
I'm considered by some people to "Not be a fan"? WTF?!
I guess some of you have a real shitty idea of what the term "FAN" means then!
With that said...
I will agree that Disney is not doing a very good job and making the best Star Wars films they can, and should be doing better.
They are working on Episode IX... NINE... They only got this far, because of the "any kind of a Star Wars fans". They should be listening to what "WE" all have to say.
If they don't want to listen, then I guess "WE" can expect franchise to wind up in the "Garbage Chute"... Even for those of us, "NON FANS", that have found something to enjoy with all of these films.
