Let's say Loki was never able to depose Odin and send him to earth. Odin found out about Loki's plans and locked him in his old prison cell instead. When Thor returns home and warns Odin of impending Ragnarok, Odin takes the warning seriously and puts all Agard's warriors on high alert, even turns on the shields around Asgard.
Thanos then arrives with his army and black order intending to retrieve the tesseract from Asgard's vaults. Thanos already has the power stone at this point. Can he and his army conquer Asgard like they've conquered other worlds?

Sounds like what happened already in TDW, but with power stone-powered Thanos instead of Malekith.

United in a struggle against Thanos, not even with the Chitauri, Outriders and the Black Order combined could he have withstood an assault from Frost Giants, Dwarves, Elves the Undead, Asgardians, etc. Not even with the Power stone. He was lucky Odin Died. |

I really think this movie should have opened with Thanos going to Xandar and getting the power gem and then destroying Xandar after getting it.
