Major error in the list; I failed to include Grave of the Fireflies which would be my personal choice for best of the year.

The only 1988 movies I've given a 9/10 to so far are THE ACCUSED, BIG and NUOVO CINEMA PARADISO. I haven't given any movie from that year a 10/10.

I had to venture into non-fiction territory to find my Best Picture:
The Thin Blue Line / Errol Morris
My other top films are:
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? / Robert Zemeckis Bull Durham / Ron Shelton Miracle Mile / Steve DeJarnatt
"Mississippi Burning" is a terrible movie. Not only is it the ultimate White Savior film (white people have to step in to save poor downtrodden people of color who cower in their homes) but the heroes are from the FBI. J. Edgar Hoover's FBI. The official government enemies to the Civil Rights Movement. The whole movie is an insult.
