'Doors : Mr. Mojo Risin' - The Story Of L.A. Woman' (2012 - Martin R. Smith)
Members of rock 'n roll band The Doors recall the making of their album 'L.A. Woman' (1971).
I enjoyed this documentary about how the Doors put together their longplayer 'L.A. Woman'. I think it's one of the great albums of the 1970s.
'Film Guide 101 : Serving Cinema's Elite And Casting Aside The Debris' (2018, Documentary - Margaret Coleridge-Hayes III)
Film students offer a rough guide to rating movies "respectably" in the digital age.
Pah, didn't enjoy this pretentious British student documentary at all. I don't see any need for film circle snobbery in the internet age.
Yeah I dug that Doors doco when it came out

Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror (1998) 5.5/10 - It's not bad, but not as good as previous sequels. It was mildly fun, funny and it was a nice surprise it got Eva Mendes.
Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return (1999) 3/10 - This was just honestly bad written. It's not that I was excited to see Issac in it, I knew it's going to suck and it does. It was really bad and just confusing. Issac was great villain from the original, but he was terrible in it at acting. So bad editing, terrible cinematography and too 'orange' which it made me unwatchable. Since I liked the original, I'm just avoiding this one as follow-up of the original. This movie gets a 3/10.
Phantom Thread (2017) 9/10 - I surprisingly liked it, it's well done and shot. The love story was just insane.
The Greatest Showman (2017) 9.5/10 - I enjoyed it very much, and I loved it. It was light and beautiful movie.. Nice to see they cast Zac Efron and Zendaya, but especially Hugh Jackman with big smile after serious roles and Wolverine stuff. Although, I just prefer La La Land slightly better.

Home for the Holidays (1972) - 3/10 - DVDMade for TV slasher film with Sally Field. Well structured but pretty damn dull. Never heard of this before, Friday. Sally Field in a made-for-tv slasher is right up my street. I'll look out for it.
Have you seen the made-for-tv horror 'When Michael Calls' (1972)? It's available on dvd here in the U K under the alternative title 'Shattered Silence'. The cinematographer Reginald Morris went on to shoot several films for Bob Clark including 'Black Christmas' (1974) which drew inspiration from 'When Michael Calls'.
Nope. Never heard of that one.

Yours: Deadpool 2 - Will see this eventually. Pocahontas - 7.5/10 Mine (only saw 2 this week): First Time Viewing:The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999) - DVD Not bad as I was expecting, since I'm a huge fan of the '76 film and was expecting this to be crap. It was okay. Yeah, the acting is pretty stale and the coincidence that this new girl has telekinetic powers was a bad idea, but I thought it was unique by doing something different and I liked the lead character. Plus, it has Sue Snell returning (the girl that got her hand grabbed at the end of the original). Not as bad as most make it out to be. 6/10Repeat Viewing:Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Netflix Just like moviemouth , I also revisited this one . Just great fun and in my Top 3 MCU movies. 8/10

A quick word about Captain America: Civil War. There is alot about this movie I like and a lot I dislike. Overall the movie is decently written with heavy themes and it doesn't really have any plot holes from what I can tell, but it is also a bit redundant of The Winter Soldier and too self-serious. My main problem is the heartless and bland directing and most of the performances are sub par. I like that its self serious and has ,ore personal stakes and the writing and themes as you say too, I thought the performances were all at least good but i think RDJ put in his best work as Stark here. As far as the directors, I am not overly a fan of theirs, especially when it comes to action but I think there two best combat scenes are in civil war (airport scene and final battle in the bunker) on the whole though I think the pair of them get far too much credit. Besides RDJ and Daniel Bruhl (who is completely wasted here) the performances are less than good, especially Chris Evans, who looks like he would rather be anywhere else. He is even worse in Infinity War. Tom Holland drives me up the wall as Spider-Man - can't stand his performance. The airport scene is by far the best action scene of the movie but is also the most out of place and idiotic scene of the movie. The whole issue could have been solved if Tony Stark and the other Avengers just went with Cap to you know, just check out his lead and if he is wrong then they could take him down. Instead they cause millions of dollars in damage and risk eachothers lives, including a teenager who has nothing to do with anything. It is also the only scene with the usual MCU humor. Then the funniest thing is that 10 min. later Tony Stark finds out that Cap is telling the truth. Don't even get me started on Tony Stark letting the maniac in the room get away because he has to fight The Winter Soldier (who he knows was controlled to kill his parents) on a camera that just happened to catch their death on a random street in 1991. The Winter Soldier has the best action scenes of the entire MCU imo. The street fight is one of my favorite action scenes of all time.

Like many of the MCu films I do not think the combat scenes are done well at all and I am afraid the winter soldier ones are my worst although some in Infinity War and Black Panther gave them a run for their money

I actually like the action scenes in Infinity War quite a bit. Black Panther I kind of agree with though. The First Avenger has the weakest action scenes of the MCU imo. Age of Ulron isn't too far behind. I know you dislike the movie quite a bit and I fully understand why, but Iron Man 2 has the second best action scene of the MCU with the race track scene. Iron Man 2 is just dumb fun for me and mostly due to Rockwell and Rourke, who are the two most fun villains of the entire franchise.

I cant remember the action/combat scenes in iron man 2 but I wouldnt be surprised if they were great , I dont think that was my problem with the film at all. I thought Favreau did a good job with that stuff in the first iron man so he probably did good if not better in part 2

Well, that still applies heavily to the street fight in The Winter Soldier which is very visceral and intense imo. The Dark Knight trilogy has a lot of hand to hand combat and I think all of it is very well done, but I know that is part of the problem you have with those movies. Another difference might be that I am more into big action scenes than hand to hand combat stuff. A movie that has fantastic hand to hand combat scenes is Atomic Blonde imo. They are some of the best I have scene. The Matrix is great too.

Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your hosts (us) posts our weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. We will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film. FIRST TIME MOVIE VIEWING
Deadpool 2 (2018, David Leitch) CinemaAfter the success of the first Deadpool after Fox gambled on an R rated super hero film with a lower budget in the X-universe, they have come back with another hard R rated chapter with only a slightly bigger budget. We see some old faces and some new characters with even some surprises. The film is well made and has amazing action and combat sequences that put the last couple of films in the MCU to shame.. take note Disney/Marvel... this is how you shoot combat. The film is also hilarious, for the most part matching the laugh hit-rate and almost the unexpected heart that the first film had. It is however a bloodier affair and that works well in this setting. I was worried that the change of director might negatively impact the film but it was a smooth transition to the new blood and this is most certainly the best superhero film of the year(and in my top 10 superhero films) thus far and will be hard to beat. 8/10
One-Eyed Jacks (1961, Marlon Brando)
This is the only film that the great Marlon Brando directed, taking over for the withdrawing Stanley Kubrick. The story is a fairly familiar one with it being pretty much a riff on the classic Pat Garrett/ Billy the Kid tale. What makes this film quite exceptional though is the direction and cinematography. It is a lush epic visually which carries the film past its humble story and makes it quite special. Brando and Karl Malden (On the Waterfront) are in the lead roles... Malden turns in perhaps a career best and Brando is fine but perhaps at his most mumbling in any of his films. 7/10 Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973, Sam Peckinpah)
Years after Stanley Kubrick had Peckinpah replaced as the writer on One-Eyed Jacks, Peckinpah does his own version of the tale here with some interesting results. I am not a fan of James Coburn in general but this might be his best work as Pat Garret, however I didn't quite buy the newcomer Kris Kristofferson as Billy the Kid. The film has a bunch of cool scenes but the score done by Bob Dylan both makes the film stand out and make it hard to believe it is a western from the late 1800's and not a hippy game from the 70's. 6/10 The Appaloosa (1966, Sidney J. Furie)
In this western Marlon Brando plays a man who tries to recover a horse stolen from him by a Mexican bandit (John Saxon). The film is pretty straight forward but is kept interested by great performances from Brando and Saxon. 6/10 The Girl on the Train (2016, Tate Taylor) tv
I did not see many good reviews for this film based on the best selling novel of the same name. It was fine though, performances were good, it held my interest well enough. 6/10 Pocahontas (1995, Mike Gabriel, Eric Goldberg) tv
Disney's animated take on the famous tale of an English soldier and the daughter of an Algonquin chief who share a romance when English colonists invade seventeenth-century Virginia. It felt like a bit of a nothing, very short, not memorable. 4/10 REPEAT MOVIE VIEWING Sleepers (1996, Barry Levinson) blu ray
This epic takes place just before and after a prank goes disastrously wrong that sees a group of boys sent to a detention centre where they are brutalised. Over ten years later, they get their chance for revenge. The film is wonderful and should sit closely along side other New York epics such as Goodfellas or State of Grace. The cast is thick with great actors such as Deniro, Dustin Hoffman, Brad Pitt, Kevin Bacon, Billy Crudup, Bruno Kirby and Minnie Driver. The only one who I thought was punching above his weight was Pitt but the rest are fantastic. 8/10 Starsky & Hutch (2004, Todd Phillips) tv
This is a parody remake of the 70's tv series of the same name. In this version we see Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson play the two streetwise cops who bust criminals in their red and white Ford Torino, with the help of a police snitch called "Huggy Bear" (Snoop Dog). There are a few good laughs... it is what it is I guess. I am sure fans of the show were horrified though. 5/10 FIRST TIME TV VIEWING
Cobra Kai (2018, Season One)
In this sequel to the Karate Kid films we are set thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, the series focuses on Johnny Lawrence reopening the Cobra Kai dojo, which causes his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso to be reignited. I really loved this Highly Recommended Evil Genius (2018, Mini-series) Netflix
This documentary series covers the extraordinary story of the "pizza bomber heist" and the FBI's investigation into a bizarre collection of suspects. I love this sort of stuff. Highly Recommended WEEKLY AWARDS
BEST FILM: Sleepers BEST ACTOR: Marlon Brando - The Appaloosa BEST ACTRESS: Emily Blunt - The Girl on the Train BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: John Saxon - The Appaloosa BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Minnie Driver - Sleepers BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Charles Lang - One-Eyed Jacks BEST SCRIPT: Barry Levinson - Sleepers BEST SCORE: Hugo Friedhofer - One-Eyed Jacks BEST DIRECTOR: Barry Levinson - Sleepers 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive too Hi, Dark. I've been meaning to watch One-Eyed Jacks. I'm curious about Pat Garrett too. Yours: Deadpool 2 7.5/10 I enjoyed it, I think liked it more than the first one. Maybe it felt just a bit too long, IMO. Ryan Reynolds is good in the role. I had a little problem with the plot, but then the post credit scene took care of that, let's say. The Girl on the Train 4.5/10 Didn't like it at all, actually. Even the various twists, I don't know, I didn't buy them. Pocahontas 7.5/10 I remember liking it, not much else. Sleepers 8/10 Haven't seen it in ages, I remember thinking it was good. I think I saw only bits and pieces of Starsky & Hutch. Mine (besides Deadpool 2): Dangerous Liaisons 9/10 Stephen Frears' movie, it's great, love it, it holds up really well. The acting is fantastic, I can't believe John Malkovich wasn't even nominated for an Oscar. Prime Cut 7.5/10 It's the movie with Lee Marvin, Gene Hackman and Sissy Spacek, about a gangster waging war to the owner of a slaughterhouse who's also in the drug business and runs a sex trafficking ring. I liked it, it's a bit trashy, but it's well made. Lee Marvin was really cool. Aenigma 5/10 It's a Lucio Fulci movie, about a girl in a Boston college who ends up in a coma after a prank from other students, only she has supernatural powers and posseses the body a new student in the college, to get revenge. I didn't like it much, and it's really shot with a nothing budget, I thought some of the supernatural scenes were cool though.

nothing this week
Re-watches...
nothing this week.
p.s. for me... 5/10 or less = Thumbs Down. 6/10 or higher = Thumbs Up.
NOTE: I am still re-watching The Sopranos (1999-2007) in it's entirety (my first time in HD) which I started May 1st and here it is May 21st and I am just about to start Season 4 Episode 1. currently it's a two way tie for my #1 spot with Breaking Bad (2008-2013) as those are my only 10/10 TV shows as the next best is 7.5-8/10 and then you got 7/10's etc from there. but anyways, ill have to see how it plays out but this time around I feel Season 1 was weaker than the rest of the seasons so far. but it's possible Breaking Bad might take my #1 spot and The Sopranos could drop to #2 but I am not calling anything official yet as I am not quite half-way through the re-watch.
--------------------------------------------------------------
OP's...
-Deadpool 2 (2018) - ?/10 (but if it's anything like the first movie I suspect it will be enjoyable enough for a one time viewing (basically a 5/10). basically... I mildly liked the first movie on initial viewing but it did not hold up on a re-watch. also, I see you mentioned the director... for me, when it comes to super hero types of movies I am not really worried about directors much as I think for the most part those movies sell themselves and the director don't have much influence on the overall quality of the movie (maybe to some degree, but nothing significant). but then again, there is only one super hero movie I score higher than a flat 6/10 which is Man of Steel (2013)(6-6.5/10). so maybe because I feel that way is why I said what I said about the director not having too much influence on things when it comes to the super hero genre.)
-Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) - 5/10
-The Girl on the Train (2016) - 4/10
-Sleepers (1996) - 5/10
-Starsky & Hutch (2004) - 5/10
-Cobra Kai (2018, Season One) - NS (but I may eventually see it at some point, for nostalgia, if for nothing else. but at this point in time... I only mildly like the 3rd movie as the first two no longer hold up.

Hi, Dark. Hey, You should give The Appaloosa a go too, it feels a little but like a hybrid of american and spaghetti westerns Yours Prime Cut 7.5/10 its definitely trashy but yeah its good Sounds interesting. I had never heard of it, while I've been meaning to watch the other two for a while. You haven't seen Dangerous Liaisons? I think you might like it.
