The Spiderman movies are not divisive. There some people who will always disagree with the majority but majority of people actually agree on these movies.
Spiderman 1 and 2 as well as HC are loved. Spiderman 3 is hated. ASM 1 and 2 are considered so-so.

Me too! I know it isn't as good as the first two and it definitely has its problems but I still think it's a lot of fun. I prefer it to both The Amazing Spider-man movies actually.

I don't know but I wasn't a fan of the Raimi films with the exception of the second one and the main reason was Tobey Maguire.
I prefer Homecoming and Tom Holland's portrayal.

I like ASM1 and Homecoming. I can watch ASM2, even if it's not that good. I don't like any of the Raimi ones and i find Tobey Maguire atrocious in them

The Raimi films are dated, I loved them at the time but I can't really watch them now. They're more like Raimi films than Spider-Man films. You couldn't pay me to watch Andrew Garfield's too-cool-for-the-room portrayal of Peter Parker. I saw the basketball scene on youtube and I hope it was a dream sequence, otherwise it's one of the worst films ever made. Homecoming has its own issues but at least it got the spirit of the character right, and he doesn't look like a 35 year old high school student.
Homecoming is the best of the bunch for me, followed by Raimi 2 & 1. Raimi 3 was an abomination (not his fault) and again the Webb films are unwatchable, nonsensical cartoons.

People have opinions, but most people agree that SM1, SM2, and HC are actually well made, quality movies while TASM 1 and SM 3 are average to bad. TASM 2 is just terrible in every way.

As someone who likes all of them, I really don't get it. You have the people who think they all suck except for the Raimi ones. The people who only like the Webb ones. The people who think they all suck except Homecoming. The people who like all of them except the Webb ones, the people who only like the first two Raimi ones etc. Why is it like this for Spider-Man in particular? The general consensus for other superhero series seems to be pretty cut and dried, but Spider-Man is on the same level of divisiveness as Star Wars. Even the Batman movies are less divisive after all the reboots they had. Why do you think this is? "Divisive" indicates there's a big disagreement - I don't see that. Most people like the first 2 Raimi movies and SMH and they don't like Spider-man 3 and the 2 Andrew Garfield movies. There is some difference of opinion over Spider-man 3 and the first of the Garfield movies, I suppose. But that's about it.

The comments in this thread are exactly what I am talking about Well to answer your question, I guess there must be something about the character that shines through and resonates with a portion of the audience in each iteration. I really don't think Spider-Man is any more or less divisive than Batman. Plenty of people hate on the Burton films, the Schumacher films and the Nolan films. I still enjoy the Burton films and the first two Nolan Batfilms are as good as it gets for CBMs. The only thing that is virtually universally agreed upon by Batman fans is the Schumacher films are terrible.

I love the firs two films and ASM1. Homecoming was the worst film it felt like a kid movie Oh please, the first two Raimi movies and ASM1 had plenty of hokey moments and cheese to where anybody of any age could watch and enjoy them, especially youngsters. Neither of them are as "mature" as you make them out to be, they certainly were not cinematic equivalents to, say, Blue Valentine or The Master were they?

The comments in this thread are exactly what I am talking about Nah, these are just some outliers. The general consensus is that SM1, SM2 and SMHC are all good to great while TASM1, TASM2 and SM3 range from meh to horrible.

I don’t know that I’d call them “divisive,” but then again that may be because my opinions are part of what Skaathar called “the general consensus.” I really enjoy Spider-Man and think Spider-Man 2 a great movie, and I also liked Spider-Man: Homecoming a lot. I only saw the first Amazing Spider-Man, but I thought it was awful; and Spider-Man 3, while watchable, isn’t great.

It might have to do with having three versions so close to each other, with each version being its own universe.

I think it's like Superman. You have the Christopher Reeve fans, the Brandon Routh fans, the Henry Cavill fans, and even some George Reeves fans still kicking.
