This doesen’t sounds like a spin off from what i’m hearing and reading. It sounds like a remake/reboot. Barry Sonnenfield isn’t coming back and neither are Will Smith or Tommy lee Jones. Liam Neeson appears to be playing the character Rip Torn played in the original. Everything sounds like it’s a remake except for the fact that Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson do not appear to be playing anyone related to the original characters.

Haven't a clue and neither does the studio.

It'll probably be set in the same continuity but different boss (Neeson) and different protagonists (Hemsworth, Thompson).

Also wasn’t the Ghostbusters remake originally labeled as a spin off? It wasn’t till months later they admitted it was a remake/reboot. I wonder if that’s what’s going on here.

In the originals didn’t they operate out of New York? I don’t think I was even clear if there were multiple MIB’s all around the world either.

A remake was smarter.

I don't think it is a remake unless they are whitewashing Will Smith's character. I think it is a movie that is based in the same universe as the other 'Men In Black' films but focuses on other agents that work in a different state. There were a lot of agents in the first three movies but they only really focused on two of them.

I guess Sony isn't pushing thru with that MIB/21 JumpStreet crossover. Anyway I never liked these films. I'd prefer if the movies had a more serious tone like the real MIB reports.

You know MIB was based on a comic right? The comics were serious and not in a good way. In a way that they had to change the comics to make it work as a movie.

Some are saying it’s a remake and some are saying it’s a spin off. That seems to be happening a lot with a lot of Sony/Colombia movies.

Oh I thought it was based on the UFO reports. Yeah. 'Men In Black' is based on a comic book series and is actually a Marvel comic book series that was originally under Malibu Comics but Marvel bought them out and own the comic book rights for 'Men In Black.' I am surprised they haven't tried to buy the film rights back and add 'Men In Black' to the MCU 'cause it is one of the most successful franchises based on a Marvel comic book series and made more money than a lot of their other movies. Don't feel bad though hardball 'cause there are a lot of movies and TV shows based on comic books that people don't know were based on comic books especially outside of the superhero genre like 'The Addams Family', 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch', Dennis the Menace', 'Richie Rich', 'Josie and the Pussycats', 'Annie', 'Blondie', 'Bulletproof Monk'. '30 Days of Night', 'Tales From the Crypt', 'Wanted', 'Oblivion', 'Timecop', 'Virus' and 'Popeye' and three recent TV shows, 'Dark Matter', 'Wynonna Earp' and 'Van Helsing.'
