It also looks like utter crap.

Ha. Not a title that easily rolls off the tongue.

That is bad, but I still love Stuff Stephanie In The Incinerator (1989) as far as awful titles go.

So they saw the clown scene in Poltergeist and figured "hey let's make a movie just off that".

"Clowntergeist" is a catchier name than "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies," although I suppose that's catchier than "Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating, Crawling, Alien, Zombified, Subhumanoid Living Dead β Part 5"

The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade (1967) has my vote.

There was a terrible low rent movie like 10 years ago called Clownstrophobia, which this reminded me of, but since there is an actual term for the fear of Clowns, I'd say that's worse.

I think it's just really low budget dubbing crap--where they dub New dialogue over a pre-existing film.
