Pros - The sense of wonder and magic no film in the series has been able to capture since. The Rebel Fleet/End titles is John Williams at his most emotionally inspiring. For a film shot in 1979, it still looks better then most movies today.
Cons - The 1997 Special Edition included a hilarious scream when Luke chose to fall to his death. Did Irvin Kershner ever comment on these changes made? Luke's failure at the cave remains pretty cryptic. Yoda's swamp just include this mystical cave as a test? The kiss between Luke and Leia seems bad in hindsight, especially with Luke's satisfied reaction. This should have remained in the film. C-3PO is savage.

Why is the warning in a different language when most everyone on the base speaks English? Isn't there a storyline where the snow beast attacks the base and the med. droid is examining a dead taun taun from that? Yeah, I don't quite get the cave either. Joseph Campbell explained it but I forgot what he said in an interview with Bill Moyers. I'd like to find that clip again.

The biggest con is the uneven quality of the dialogue... as is the case with most of the films.
Some of it is inspired, some of it is cringeworthy. It's a hot mess.
It's easy to overlook considering how iconic the film is but if you were to view it as some film and not Star Wars, it'd just be weird.

Pros: Darker and thematically deeper than the first Star Wars film One of the best plot twists in a film ever written Frank Oz's performance as Yoda
Cons: The changes in dialogue added into the 2004 version between Darth Vader and Palpatine. The original 1980 scene kept it subtle.

The cons--you could say maybe it is too fast paced. Didnt bother me, but it really doesn't give one much of a chance to breath except during the Yoda scenes. There's also few moments without music (again, not a con per se).
I've heard complaints about the tauntaun scene being badly edited. Like when they cut to that "sensors are placed-I'm going back" shot.
I think it would have been way cool if when the stormtroopers entered the Hoth base and the wampa snow creatures attacked them due to the signage, that one of them went after Darth Vader and he used a force choke hold to immobilize it.
They shot a lot of footage of the snow creatures--including experiments with a 12 foot tall man in suit (on stilts).
Re: SE I think adding a little more of the exterior of Cloud City was a good addition.
I didnt care for the added wampa eating scene since it felt like an insert and didnt match the pace of the leg shot.

Pros: Every freaking thing.
Cons: It was the last Star Wars movie that was truly great.

Pro - Darth Vader at the peak of his powers - Realizing Vader's torturing of Han was to entice Luke to rescue him. Activating Force sensations in him so as to ensnare him at his most vulnerable.
Con - Dagobah has become one of my least fav stretches in the saga - because I've seen it so much & the swamp gives off weak vibes.

It's my favorite Star Wars movie, so its one big pro for me.
The only con is the change in Vader's dialoge when leaving Bespin.
The original "Bring my shuttle" sounds a lot better to me than "Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival."
