Suggestions? I might buy myself I am Legend. I'm assuming you've read 'The Exorcist', 'Salem's Lot', and other Stephen King books? Have you read 'Communion' by Whitley Steiber? I couldn't sleep after reading it, I kept thinking I saw aliens at the foot of my bed. 'The Ritual' by Adam Nevill, has recently been made into a film, which i thought very good, but the book is scarier, in my opinion. The film changed the ending.

Read all those, how about vampire books.

Some of the stories in this book scared me to death: '50 Great Horror Stories' by John Canning. www.amazon.com/great-horror-stories-John-Canning/dp/B0006WBPWE

Floating Dragon by Peter Straub has one of the most horrific scenes I've ever read.

Everything I ever read by Michael McDowell was pretty good. The first one was Cold Moon Over Babylon back in 1980.
As for I Am Legend, all I ever read of it was an excerpt posted on the Internet, and it seemed to more closely match the Vincent Price film than did the later Charlton Heston film, although both films were good in my opinion. Haven't seen the Will Smith film yet.

Some older Dan Simmons books are pretty good. Both Carrion Comfort and Children of the Night are vampire themed, the first one with a different twist on it and the second from a more scientific perspective.
Also can’t go wrong with anything from Robert McCammon.

I am Legend is a fantastic read, albeit fairly short. But if you like it continue with Richard Matheson. I haven’t read a ton but what I have has been great.
Also pretty much anything by Stephen King.
Also the book House of Leaves by Danielewski.

Robert Aickman.
Run as fast as you can to read something by Robert Aickman. If you read it and like it, you’ll love nearly everything he wrote. If you hate it, you’ll hate nearly everything he wrote. A bit like Garrison Keillor: if you get it, you get it, and if you don’t, you’ll think it’s the weirdest thing ever.
