Also from Australia. When picking up dinner, my dad varies his choice of McDonald's places. He dislikes one of them particularly as they often get the order wrong, but says that another one is rather better by comparison. So the problem is not the food itself, but rather the service. I dislike the way McDonald's looks these days, I think it looked a lot nicer in the 1990s. It looked friendlier then.

@wolf-swordsman When I was a kid my dad would say that our local McDonald's was better than the one in the city. We all thought he was nuts. But he actually has a point, the food can vary.
As far service goes, it does tend to be pretty bad usually. If not the wrong order than just complete indifference or you get served by someone who can barely understand English.
It did look friendlier in the past I agree.

I live in Davie, Florida, & I once got a Filet O'Fish sandwich that had a half-slice of cheese on the top bun, rather than in the sandwich itself. That should tell you plenty. Lol

It's been about 12 years since I've eaten anything from McDonald's. I hardly ever got a burger from there as growing up in the '70s/'80s as a kid/teen, I usually ate from Burger King and Wendy's.
There were rare occasions I'd eat a Quarter Pounder. I wasn't used to the taste of the burgers so I opted for McChicken, Filet-O-Fish (w/o tartar sauce) and McNuggets (w/Hot Mustard dipping sauce).
I have no idea if they make the burgers fresh or if they're still pre-made. I'd rather get a burger at my local grocer's deli though. A lot tastier and made from freshly-butchered meat. Our town population is only 2,200, so there's not much of a McDonald's. It's about half to a third the size of a regular restaurant because it a combo McD's/Chevron gas station. There is a regular-sized McD's about 6 miles away, though.

I watched The Founder the other day and it got me thinking about how much McDonald's or "Macca's" as we call it down here has changed since I was a kid. Now they make the burgers fresh rather than just having them pre-made and ready. This I find to be an absolute drag as you not only have to wait to place your order, you have to wait for it to be made as well. I don't go to Macca's for a fine dining experience. I just want my burger and fries and I want them fast. They also taste better when they have been marinating there for a while, preferably in a foam container. *evil laughter* They also introduced a Create Your Own where for around $20 which is what it tends to add up to, you can add your own stuff and select the bun type. Not very popular from what I have seen. Anyway, I'm from Australia. And here is a link to our menu options. mcdonalds.com.au/menuWould love to hear from others. It depends on which one you use. The one closest to me is like a third world country.

I noticed that most of these McDonalds don't have those playgrounds anymore. I guess it's been phased out. I used to love taking off my shoes and run inside those things as a kid. I feel bad for the kids in this generation who won't have a place to play whenever they go to McDonalds.

Lucy You are right I haven't seen a playground at a Macca's for a long time. I think they got rid of them for fear of litigation if a kid hurts themselves.

I will say this about my local McDonald's. When I go through their drive-thru it don't matter how many cars are in front of me I am in and out in a hurry. I guess that is why they call it "fast food".

They look far more modern than they used to. The new updated look looks great where they are enhancing more neutral tones instead of the garish red and yellow. However the food (except breakfast) is complete garbage. I feel like sad Ben Affleck whenever I eat one of their burgers.

I haven't been to McDonald's since they removed the dollar menu, but I remember the food tasted fine, even though it's prepared by minimum wage employees. I might go back once I can order food electronically without the need of a cashier.
Oh, I remember the playground. We used to have one back in the 1990s when parents would order the food. They eventually did away with it where I live because some kid broke his arm. They knocked it down and expanded the parking lot. Bummer.

I too have tried to stay away from fast food, but NOT because I'm health conscious, but only because I'm now in my 50's, and with each passing year it gets harder and harder to keep weight off, as my metabolism continues to slow. However, about 6 months ago, I made a point of going to McD's for lunch (Milwaukee suburb), since I wanted to try the new, larger, 'Grand' Big Mac. I ordered the full value meal (total cost was about $8.35, if I remember correctly), and it was GREAT! Not only did it come very hot, and relatively fast, it was VERY good and COMPLETELY satisfying. And that, mainly, was the reason I made a point of trying it in the first place. The problem I always had with the Big Mac (at least in the last decade or two), was the fact that it was no longer very 'Big' anymore.......what used to seem like such a large burger back in the day (and probably actually was at one time, before they seemed to slowly 'shrink' the size of it), and one that was completely satisfying as a meal, no longer was anymore. I'd order the Big Mac meal, eat it, and still be hungry even after finishing it. Not incredibly hungry..........just not completely satisfied. Well, the good news (for me, anyway) is they've now solved the 'size' issue of the Big Mac with the larger version..................but the bad news is I'm now too old to enjoy it anymore (at least on any kind of 'regular' basis). As good as that particular meal was, I haven't been back since. SAVE FERRIS

Don't know. Austin has so many great places to eat everywhere. 16 years, and I may have gone into one twice, for either a hash-brown or fries.
