Today would have been Christopher Lee's 96th birthday, he worked in all genres of cinema, but is best loved and will long be remembered for his roles in horror, specifically as Dracula in ten movies.

Agreed. He was superb no matter what kind of film he did. You are correct that he will be remembered more for horror films. He was my favorite Dracula, and I'll always cherish his performance as Lord Summerisle in The Wicker Man.

Much respect to Christopher Lee. His friend and fellow horror icon Vincent Price was also born today. And today is Linnea Quigley's birthday (she worked with Price on Mark Goldblatt's 1988 zombie comedy 'Dead Heat').
Peter Cushing was born on 26 May.

Yikes, it's a real plethora of horror icons all having birthdays this week! I love Vincent Price and Peter Cushing too. Linnea, I loved her in Return of the Living Dead as "Trash."

And Vincent Price's birthday as well.
Hard to pick favorite Lee performances since he did so many.
I think Rasputin is overlooked--more a horror film than historical. My signature is a quote by Lee from that film.

Also bear in mind, a possible model for the character of James Bond at that.

The image of him as Dracula snarling with fangs (Lugosi never wore them) and as the Beatles-haired (before there was a Beatles) Frankenstein monster were two of the most distinctive film images--certainly in horror-of the late 50s. His Dracula was also the most truly evil version to come along since Nosferatu. I think Lugosi's initial interpretation could be viewed as a Valentino-type foreign lover--at least prior to A and C Meets Frankenstein where he changes into a bat and fights the wolf man, more so than an all out demonic fiend as Lee is presented early on. After him, how many all out evil Draculas have there been? I think Charles Macauley in Blacula is the most impressive of the 70s, since Palance and Jourdan are not quite so thoroughly evil like Lee is presented. Then in the 80s there is Duncan Regehr in The Monster Squad, but other than that, most of the ones have been either somewhat sympathetic or cartoonish.
