What were the names of some of your favorite local Video Stores?

Hollywood Video. Movie Gallery.
I don't think that I ever rented from Blockbuster.

Video Village – it might have taken its name from an old Monty Hall game show that predates Let's Make A Deal.

In the eighties and early nineties there was a chain of video stores in Australia called Fountain Flicks. There was also Mountain Video, but that, I think, was a smaller chain. I don’t know what happened to them exactly. I guess they were bought out and rebranded. Well, I mean, many chains did when Blockbuster came along. We also had Video Ezy, which is switched from video rental to bricks-and-mortar retailers, and now it’s an online-only seller.

Don't remember if they even had a name. A small locally owned place within walking distance, so they didn't require me to have a credit card. They had a porn section in the back through some hanging hippy beads. Also a good horror selection. The 1st VHS I ever rented was The Thing.

Both were franchise stores.
BlockBuster (closed down maybe early or mid 2000s) Video Ezy (closed down maybe early or mid 2010s)

North Campus Video. Closed in 2012, outlasting two big-name video stores located within two city blocks.

Video Ezy, Civic Video, Blockbuster and another one which I can't remember the name of but we had it in 2 towns in the area I grew up in the 80s and 90s and it was blue. We still have a Civic Video not far away from where we live but all the others have closed down now including our local Video Ezy store which opened in 1996 and was really popular.

Video Ezy was the closest and therefore the one we always went too. I still remember walking up and down the aisles looking for the movies on VHS I wanted to rent. You could also rent TV shows on video and video games. They eventually switched over to DVDs, but then closed. I have (mostly) fond memories of the place - though their 'cleaners' for DVDs didn't do a great job. They'd stick them in a thing of gunk to 'clean' them, but they'd still get jammed in the DVD player. Can't say I've seen a DVD rental place around anywhere in a long time.

I used to rent from Captain Video. Then Blockbuster Video came along and I rented from Blockbuster because it was closer (only 6 blocks away) and had more selection.

Civic Video is the only one we still have that is close to us and I am surprised it is still around but there must still be people renting movies or they would have closed it down like they did with most of the other video shops. We used to go to Video Ezy often up until around 2012-2013 and we stopped going 'cause they weren't getting a lot of the new movies we wanted to see and we got them online instead. I used to enjoy going to video shops and looking around at all the videos (later DVDs) and I discovered a lot of movies I wouldn't have known about in the Horror and Thriller sections I enjoyed like the 'Phantasm' and 'Demons' movies. I remember when our local Video Ezy got rid of videos and replaced them with DVDs they had a big sale and we got a number of movies and three videos of the 'Freddy's Nightmares' TV show.

We had mom-and-pop places with names like Video Connection here in New York, and they always had thick binders behind the counter that adults could ask to peruse, with page after page of pr0n video covers and numbers next to each one so you could ask for them and be discreet.
One place in my town had the pr0n binders, but also rented SNES games and sold baseball cards and shit like that, so us kids would have reason to hang out in there and of course we knew what was going on when the binders came out. When we were bored we’d prank call those stores like: “Do you have Lesbian Force 7? No? What about The Young and the Breastless?”
There was also a video store that was further away, but they had three or four different arcade machines, with games like Mortal Kombat II and NBA Jam. Many quarters were pumped into those machines.

I hated it when Blockbuster drove all the Mom -n- Pop stores out of business and I had to finally cave in and rent from them. While I felt bad for the employees, it was satisfying to see them go under once Netflix and Redbox became things.

There were two I used to frequent, both independently owned stores; Videoflicks and Cinema City. Both had huge selections and a lot of hard-to-find stuff.

Video 2000 I am not sure for how long or when I discovered it, but I remember that it was just a few seconds or maybe a minute away from Playcom Oslo and while they had a rather big collection of films and genres, and very nice prices, the one thing I did not enjoy was that their system of organizing the film genres was rather messy and one had to be very patience and take some time off if one was to find the films that you were in search of. I think they closed down business in either 2004 or 2005.
DVD Spesialisten aka DVD-IN aka Playcom Oslo My favorite of the ones I had in my city, sure they where at times maybe a little too expensive on the prices, but for such a small sized shop, they had some of the best selection of movie genres and hard to find titles and releases. I did not discover them until around summer of 2003 when I had began collecting DVD movies and my best memories of theirs had to be from spring summer 2006 and up till around 2009-10 as whenever I visited them (sometimes 2-3 times a week) there was always something which caught my attention and I found so many fantastic new favorites films and whenever I walk past the old place, (which sadly closed in winter of 2012) I do feel sad that such a great store just vanished and now I maybe only visit the city 2-3 times or less every 6 months, instead of 2-3 times a week.
Video Nova One of the longest living (I think) video stores in norway and where the last surviving shop went quitetly away in I think 2014 or 2015. They had at least somewhere between 10-12 stores located in my city, maybe more. Their prices was at times a little to stiff, but even their smaller stores often offered a good variaty in all kind of movie genres and they would often have some new ones just lying around waiting for me to discover them.
Videoworld A local video rental store which I discovered when we moved when I was a teenager. Good prices, very impressive gallery/selection when it came to action, horror and b-movies and I really miss the smell of old VHS covers, sweet candy and soda mixed with ice cream and all their movie poster hanging around the place. Sadly when I had just began used to it, the place closed down in the beginning/spring of 2004.
Spaceworld Still exists but do no longer sell any movies, sadly. They used to be very good at having a solid variaty and lots of weird and interesting b-movies, horror films and cult titles lying around, specially in the half priced "garbage" bin style, and I found lots of new favorite movies almost whenever I visited them during the early 00s, but when they went over to DVD a lot of these films seemed to disappear and make way for more family and mainstream related stuff and pretty much killed most of my interest in visiting their stores, but it happened from time to time that I would find a small gem here and there but the good times for my part surely went away when the Blu-ray arrived as now it just seemed to be the older stuff getting re-released all over again, and again and I had little interest in re-buying a film I already owned on both VHS and DVD. These days their shops are as boring as hell and half of them looks "lifeless" and empty as ever.
