Okay, so I've seen this movie countless times and enjoy the heck out of it. In fact, I am watching it right now. Something occurred to me, and, yes, I know it's just a movie, but...
SPOILERS...
The Lee Grant character, Ann Thorn, is revealed at the end to be an apostle of Hell. I am sure I was totally surprised by the twist the first time I saw it. But now, knowing what's coming, watching the character, she just seems so invested in her comfortable and happy life with Richard and the boys and everything, it's like two different characters. It was unconvincing. Shouldn't there have been some hints, however subtle, that maybe something was going on? Like how she seemed to adore Mark and was very distraught by his death... If she was faking her emotions, then she was an excellent faker!
You could take this level of perception to another level, and it almost becomes ridiculous. Like when she discovers Aunt Marion's dead body, she grips the bedpost and is visibly upset. If she's supposed to be Beelzebub, wouldn't a look of evil glee and satisfaction on her face be more appropriate? Or have her say something like "Nice work, crow." There was nobody else in the room she needed to convince! Besides that, she never liked Aunt Marion, anyway!
I know this is nit-picking in the extreme, but it was obviously a twist ending for the sake of a twist ending. And really just wondered if there was anybody else who ever noticed this.

She was so evil that she kept up the ruse until the end.

I think that was the point, in that she had to make sure she stayed "in character" all the time so that she was to remain convincing.

I know she was Thorn's 2nd wife. Did the movie ever establish whether he got remarried before or after Damien's birth?
