I’ve also never been able to place Christensen’s accent; he glides his rs, for example. I’ve spoken to a few British Columbians, and none of them ever sounded like this. Anyway. Chris Lee should have re-played Dracula when he was older.

The thing I realized with the "devil-man" is that Lucas was operating from a pattern. Darth Vader is a machine death's head. So to contrast that, Lucas did an organic alien devil.

1. C3PO is broken up and on an assembly line again—just like Empire.
2. Padmé is more a damsel-in-distress than Leia.
3. R2 can fly?
4. This action sequence is going on too long. It’s actually kinda boring.

Very fond of this shot of Anakin and Padmé framed by the doorway.
Lucas has developed a more visual eye since Star Wars. The technique is obvious (hey, so was Chaplin’s!), but it’s definitely there.

I’m rather shocked by how good Jackson is. He’s a good actor, but he can rely far too often on a usual bag of tricks (often involving SCREAMING, à la Pacino), and here he’s giving an original and full performance. I like it.

So, with all the pastiching Lucas is doing here, I would have done a pastiche of the Cushing-Lee fight at the end of Horror of Dracula here.
Poor Yoda, such a little guy who has to leap all around to fight with Chris Lee. I guess the puppet couldn’t have done this, but—ehh, that was such a great puppet.

OK, I finished it. I still liked it, but I’m not sure whether or not I liked this one or The Phantom Menace better. This one had more tedious spells, and worse acting, and that horrendous lighting, but it felt like it hung together better. Phantom Menace is really all over the place. I think I would have preferred it with a different actor as Anakin.
The original three are much better than these, though.

It’s weird seeing Darth Vader’s stormtroopers as good guys. that is actually one of the strengths of the storytelling and visuals:
The Empire is not an evil outside entity conquering the good Republic. The Empire grows out of the Republic like a tumor until it destroys it (see the balance of the force concept too which mirrors this). This is a step by step process as manipulated by Palpatine, here by using the social divide to create a civil war and playing and corrupting both sides so to grant himself an indefinite term and special military powers: an army (to destroy the Jedi-police and democracy).
All that is also shown via the "evolutionary design": eg you have the elegant triangular Jedi Starfighter that Obi Wan flies as police car, but at the end of the film you see the huge triangular Republican destroyers taking their place - "the shroud of the dark side has fallen".
I am not aware of any visual medium that remotely rivals what Lucas does here.

You're giving Lucas way too much credit with the prequel trilogy. you are giving your brain way to little credit, pussycat. Eg the spaceship evolution-design example comes directly from Lucas himself in the audio commentary of Ep II. Enlighten yourself.
