And? The house doesn't have to exist. There's no fact that it should, that it needs to, etc. But it does. That's a fact, an "is". Another thing: I agree with rachelcarson1953 that this has nothing to do with the old IMDb board. How about you start a new thread, if you are interested in pursuing this discussion? If the house exists, it's a fact that it does. No fact implies that it should continue to exist, that we shouldn't burn it down, etc. I couldn't care less if this doesn't have to do with the original topic. If you don't like it, it's not my problem. I'm not taking requests at the moment unless a substantial amount of cash is attached to them.

Then you shouldn't have a problem if, in the future, all your threads are hijacked, and all replies to you are non-sequiturs. In other words, if people behave towards you like you do towards them. I'll keep that in mind.

I don't start threads that often and I never have any expectation that anyone is going to respond to them when I do, but I also don't try to control how people are allowed to respond to a thread of mine. And if I did, I'd never expect anyone to follow the request. Usually I'd expect just the opposite. I'll tell people that I'm only interested in a conversation that's focused on something particular or that proceeds a certain way, but I'm just presenting information. I don't expect anyone to care. I'm just letting them know what the deal is in the rare event that should they happen to care.

I'll keep that in mind. By the way, this whole tangent started simply because I responded to a judgmental comment from clusium. The aim was to encourage being less judgmental. Clusium responded to my comment in a way that led to the tangent. I have no problem with the idea of tangents in threads; in fact I find them valuable for their own sake. Part of the reason for that is that I've always preferred real-time chat to message boards. Tangents in threads flow more like chat. Unfortunately I'm in a very small minority of people who prefer chat (re topics like we discuss on this board).

I miss: Chx PD. Hell.... I miss everybody. I do too, Vegas. There was a different feel to that old board, this one seems more... I don't know... polarizing? I miss Sulla, even though he is over here on this pro board, he won't post on RFS. I understand; sometimes I think about taking a break, too. But RFS is where I started, and I still want to hear other's thoughts on those topics. Humans have got to find a way to get along, and religion is one thing that divides them.

Humans have got to find a way to get along, and religion is one thing that divides them. I think in the late 2000's there was a greater sense of being a "community"... I wouldn't say that we were "friends"... but, it seemed more like we were here to entertain each other. Sure, some claimed to be friends... but, to me that wasn't the real force that pulled us together. Things eventually got really clique-y... I think that's why I found "The Exodus" to be so disappointing... As some took off for the "other" board, it was invite only.. and those there were more fond of creating a "safe space" than keeping the community where we could really disagree with each other.

I choose to not read about children consenting to sex and pedophilia, so since you discuss this - openly and adamantly - I will put you on block. As I pointed out earlier what I'm actually discussing is the way that people reason and attempt to justify their norms, especially where those norms involve controlling other people, incarcerating them, socially disenfranchising them, etc. It's just that people are so emotional about that particular topic that they obsess about it. At any rate, if you're concerned with people getting along better and you think that mechanically ignoring them is a good solution to that, then okay.

I didn't know about the "other" board, I was out of town for about the last 10 days before the old one shut down, and I was a "lurker" over there, since other posters on another board were friends of mine and I didn't want to come out as full-blown atheist with them (one was Mormon, the other nondenominational Christian) so I waited to post until we all landed over here and I chose a new user name. They were nice people and I didn't want to say anything that might hurt them. So here I am.

Chucklez O'Toole.... he wasn't as funny as his name might imply... started that board maybe around 2014.

Sounds like the "refugee" board that split off from Music General (after a bunch of folks got butthurt over some really stupid shit)

freedom of speech doesn't equate to common sense "Common sense" doesn't equate to anything other than wanting people to more or less conform to one's biases, core beliefs, intuitions, etc. Not at all. I see 'common sense' as weighing up all sides of an argument and deciding which is the best argument/outcome for you.

Since there is no such thing as objective morality, we only have our best subjecting meaning and morality to go on.
