I mean, if they made the show exactly the same way as when it was on the air. Is there anything on it that could not work on network television in the lame times of today?

I can't imagine that all six characters would be white if it were made today.

As noted above, it'd be more diverse. I don't think Bing's transgender father would be as controversial as it was back in the day. Ross Geller if kept true to as it was back then, would be despised.

its sort of sad we are debating how much it could develop, but then thats a generational thing as well as a social evolution as well.

I doubt it. Too white. Sad reflection on how far America has fallen.

I can't imagine that all six characters would be white if it were made today. I must say I just don't see it , I mean, fuller house just came out and they are all white.
Besides they're are a lot of shows where the only characters are white, like 2 broke girls.
It's always sunny in Philadelphia, the Goldbergs. Are on now, they're all white. Arrested development also.

People would be saying it is full of white privilege and they shouldnt be complaining when they have an expensive apartment like that and no jobs.

I'm not sure how to answer the question without using my knowledge of modern sitcoms. A lot of modern sitcoms were inspired by FRIENDS. If FRIENDS comes out today, then none of those sitcoms exist, so I have no point of reference. What I can tell you is that to this day a lot of people still re-watch episodes, so there can't be that many dated elements. I must say I just don't see it , I mean, fuller house just came out and they are all white. Besides they're are a lot of shows where the only characters are white, like 2 broke girls. It's always sunny in Philadelphia, the Goldbergs. Are on now, they're all white. Arrested development also. FULLER HOUSE is a sequel to an 80s/90s show with the same cast. I.A.S.I.P. and A.D. came out in the early 2000s. There were more diversity complains in that time compared to the 90s, but there wouldn't be enough to affect the casting in the way we're discussing until this decade. 2 BROKE GIRLS and THE GOLDBERGS are from this decade. However, the former doesn't have an all-white cast (I don't know where you got that idea) and, unlike your other examples, the latter doesn't take place in the year it was made. Not to mention that it's an autobiography, so it's more understandable.

Until the mid 1970s, with a handful of exceptions, almost all of the main recurring characters on American tv were white, all of the non-celebrity models in tv ads were white, and almost all the major characters in American films were white, yet Americans who were not white (who made up more than 10% of the population) still watched tv and enjoyed going to the movies.
Now that people of color are appearing more frequently as major characters in tv and films and in ad spots, (some) white Americans can't handle it? What does that say about Americans?

In addition to that, all the characters in Arrested Development belong to the same family, so it's only natural that they would all be of the same ethnicity. I have never watched "Fuller House" or "The Goldbergs" but I assume the same thing applies.

People would be saying it is full of white privilege and they shouldnt be complaining when they have an expensive apartment like that and no jobs. Despite it being all white, they explained the financial differences very well. Half the group was broke, the other half was doing well through most seasons. Monica's apartment was rent controlled. Chandler's apartment wasn't as nice.
It was an unusually white show though with the exception of Ross dating Aisha Tyler for a few episodes. You would think minorities didn't exist in NYC.

No way they'd all be white today, as others have mentioned. And yeah, the whole Chandler hating his trans father thing wouldn't make it to screen.
Also, I doubt all the gay jokes would sound very funny to a modern audience. It's quite notable watching Friends, especially early on, how horrified any male is at the accusation that they seem gay.
Ross would seem like a huge jerk today, but that's because Ross was always a huge jerk. I don't know why anybody rooted for him and Rachel, when they got together he was an absolutely colossal douchebag towards her at every possible opportunity. If that was a real couple, he'd be beating her within a few years of their getting married because "you just make me so mad sometimes". Asshole.

Sure. At its core it stands up...which is just random stuff happening with a group of friends. I don't really see the white thing as being that big a deal. It'd almost stand out more if it were deliberately diverse. Id be willing to bet most peoples 5 closest friends aren't taken from all races and backgrounds. They're probably fairly similar.

the whole Chandler hating his trans father thing wouldn't make it to screen. Ross would seem like a huge jerk today 1) I don't think he was angry at his father for being transgender or even gay; I think he was angry at his father for cheating on his mom and for always trying to be the centre of attention. 2) I think that was intentional, because of how angry RACHEL got at him. The characters even went deep into his behavior when he started fearing that CAROL was going to turn EMILY into a lesbian.

No, I don't think that's so. He frequently mentioned the cheating, and that's fair enough, but to my recollection he always emphasised that it was cheating "with the pool boy". And his dad being in women's clothing was another frequently used running joke by itself. Had his father been a manly man who had cheated with another woman, I doubt Chandler would be nearly as unhappy or embarrassed about it. Look at Joey, for instance - he found out his dad was cheating right there on the show (The One With the Boobies). How often was that brought up as a joke after that episode? Never, wasn't it? Do you mean that they intended to make him a jerk? I doubt that, because he never, ever stopped being that jerk. There was no character arc where he gradually became a good person - remember The Last One? "I got off the plane". Yes Rachel, the culmination of your decade-long search for success and independence was that you gave up your dream because it was what Ross wanted. Think he will be less angry at you now?

I'm not doubting the main cast would stay white, but NYC was like Idaho level white in the show.
