Brandon Routh came close. And then he ended up having less dialogue than Henry Cavill in BVS.

I thought Joe Manganiello was a very good Superman look-alike. Sure he could have a slightly fairer skin tone and some bright blue eyes but he does have the mannish square-jawed look of comic Superman better than Reeve did, plus his physique and height are definitely more Superman material. He lost out the part to Cavill though so I guess we'll never know.

It's the same after a live action movie becomes popular. It also happened with Spider-man and X-men. They made Wolverine taller, Mystique looked like her movie version for a bit, Magneto gained his movie look and became more prominent like Stryker and Deathstrike. Xavier even started talking with an accent to be more like Stewart. With Spider-man, he gained organic webbing after the movies.

Nope. The only thing close is the hair. The facial structure is very different. I mean, it's not completely opposite or anything. But you put the same hair styling on any male actor and majority of them will have facial structures just as close to that Superman drawing as Reeve does.

George Reeves was probably closer, but Christopher is still my Superman:

George Reeves definitely resembled the character the most (he pretty much had the exact jaw), but Christopher is my favorite as well.

again, the comics influence the studio to select an actor resembling the character, and vice versa. Reeves looked like the original version of superman, and I bet after he was cast, artists began drawing superman with a stronger resemblance, and once Christopher Reeve was cast the same thing happened.

Superman's looks in the comics often change depending on which artist is drawing him. So whether Reeve looks like one version of Superman or doesn't look like another version isn't a very big issue for me.
However, IMHO, Reeve was, is, and probably will be the best portrayal of Superman on screen. It was his acting that really sold the character. Superman isn't all about powers and standing with the chest puffed out and talking in a baritone voice (or in Snyder's movies - looking angry and depressed all the time).
Reeve made the character believable because he brought a variety of emotions to the character, made him very human and likeable. His Superman showed humor, sadness, anger, frustration, happiness, cheekiness, intelligence. Just a square jaw and big muscles don't make Superman.
Reeve rocks!!!! RIP Christopher Reeve, and thank you for making us believe that a man can fly.

It wasn't that Reeve looked like Superman: it's that he embodied the character. There was a warmth to his Superman missing from every other portrayal on screen since. He looked like a hero. Reeve perfectly capture the hope that Superman is supposed to represent.

To be honest, I feel like Cavill could do a decent job of portraying Superman if only he was given a chance. But Snyder keeps wanting to make Superman a cross between Batman and Edward Cullen and I honestly feel bad for Cavill.

I would've liked to have seen Cavill try a friendlier version of Superman. He seems like he has a nice smile. But yeah, Snyder's too busy having him do the angry eyes.

I think my favorite Superman scene (and probably in any movie) was when he was about to tell Lois that he's Superman before their date. When he takes off his glasses and you can see a physical shift in his posture and face. That one scene showed why people would think they are two different people. It's awesome.
