It makes perfect sense. Because over 90% of art is already for and by white people. History is the past. It's why we move away from it. No need to live like we used to when things were far more openly racist and homophobic. Leave it behind. Not it doesnt make sense. If they make shows and tv stations for particular ethnicities it should work the same for all of them. The idea behind art (as it may have escaped you) is that it represents the ideas, hopes, desires, fears, of a people. This is how it has always worked-until most recent times. If a round wheel spins, no reason to try making it square.
You're not going to win with the "take from what we didn't create" crowd. To them, it is not really about "fairness" or "equal representation". It's more about retribution and appropriation. That may well be the future of the West if more of this mentality encapsulates the culture.

Well let's see what would happen if they made a White Entertainment Television, an Ivory magazine, white power ads, white and proud campaigns, etc. The only sex and race today that cannot be proud of who they are is white males. Sure, I do not care about the diversity in these movies and shows. I care more about this. If I yelled white power in a crowded room, I may get arrested the way people are today. However, the other way around is 'empowerment'.

Women and minorities face hardships every day that you and I will never have to; which is why there are 'empowerment' movements for them. If the hardest part of your day is rolling your eyes at this thread, it's no wonder you don't understand the difference. Either way, do the world a favor and don't yell white power in a crowded room; or at all if you can help it.

It actually does. Unless you count the hundreds of years where white people controlled all the arts and lynched blacks for trying to even learn to read. Please do not lie about what the arts used to be.
The days of white people controlling all aspects of culture are done.

The previous poster was right. People like you are completely beyond reasonable discussion. Your hate is not well-hidden.

You're right. I do hate white supremacists. I don't see how that's beyond reason though. No, you just hate whites unless they want to go extinct in media and real life. That's the only way you avoid a double standard. Since you actually do want to see white extinction it isn't technically a contradiction.
To you, a room full of white people in a movie appears to be a KKK rally about to break out, not a reflection of most European community behavior.

If anyone asked me to choose between either one of the biggest pop culture sci-fi franchises- Star Wars or Star Trek- I'd choose the latter in an instant. Better to be associated with the first instance of an integrated TV cast (in the 1960's) versus fanboys of a feature film franchise who are livid about a black man and white woman as the main heroes (among other things).

We constantly make these kind of excuses and all it does is create more of a divide. I do not care who is casted in a part as long as they are right for it. I do not care about color or sex. That is my point. Black Lives Matter is a hate group, but get treated far differently than say the KKK, even though they seem to do and say the same things. Also, nowhere did I mention anything about my life. You assume something that is not true. I am successful now, but I busted my ass my entire life to get here. There was a 15 year stretch in my life where I barely made it paycheck to paycheck. I had my entire family in a small home in a terrible neighborhood and had a negative balance in my bank account more than not. Did I complain? Did I ask for a handout? No. There was no 'white privilege' involved. I went to college for 12 years and worked 60 hour weeks to move ahead in life and become successful. People today use their color or their sex as a crutch and excuse not to succeed and I am sick of it.

Did you have an example of the wrong person getting the job? I don't understand how Black Lives Matter is a hate group. They protest police brutality and racial inequality (which are real things), they don't protest white people. The KKK historically rallies against racial equality (to put it mildly). That's as basic as I can possibly make it sound. You know what? Plenty of people have a backstory similar to yours, and the absolute fact is it's much more common for women and minorities to be in that situation than you or I. And there are fewer opportunities to help them get out of it. This thread is about something as ridiculous as the entertainment industry and even it shows how the deck is stacked against minorities. Nobody is asking for a handout here, they're asking for an even playing field. Anyway where did I make excuses for anyone? How exactly am I 'making the problem worse?' I suppose I'm making your problem worse by pointing out the inequality that you'd prefer not to acknowledge. I've seen struggle, real struggle, firsthand. It makes me appreciate where I am today but it also gives me perspective and empathy for those less fortunate than I am now. It's surprising that someone with your background can't understand these things.

The problem is they don't mean or are associated with comparable circumstances. "Black Power" - civil rights, representation, equality. Primarily linked with inclusion into society "White power" - associated with white separatist, white nationalist, neo-Nazi and white supremacist organizations. Primarily linked with enforcing exclusion of certain groups from society Now if if you subscribe to the latter, feel free to shout it. That you may get arrested for it personally I find re-assuring.

It's surprising that someone with your background can't understand these things. Black Lives Matter has been shown inciting hate against white people many times. Their version of protest has largely been rioting, destroying property, and inflicting violence on those of a different color. Sounds like a hate group to me.
Also, I do see struggles on all ends. What I hate is black using things like this as a crutch to be lazy and commit crime. FACT: There are TONS more programs out there to help minorities get jobs, get financial help, get education, etc. than there are for any other race. It is okay to insult white people because of the color of their skin. This is the only race where this is 'allowed'. This kind of thinking contributes to the problem. By creating programs that only benefit one group of people, you further divide those people from other groups. Life is hard. We all have it tough. Get over it, work hard, and do something with yourself.

No it hasn't. This is simply untrue. And there are more programs to assist minorities because they're the ones who need the help, this is the whole point.
Some have it harder than others. And they are working hard and doing something with themselves, unless you're suggesting all minority people are 'looking for handouts?' And when they do try to empower themselves, you criticize them for doing it! You can't have it both ways.
