Enjoyable horror-adventure/comedy with some pretty cool special effects and one where I think that I already own two DVD copies of, however part 2 is the one I really want, but without having to buy a brand new Blu-ray player for only one film. Hopefully someone will re-relase both as part of a two for one deal, or something like that.

Hopefully someone will re-relase both as part of a two for one deal, or something like that. I always assumed the second movie wouldn't be worth it. I enjoyed the first film for the most part, it has a certain nostalgia, and some creative effects and everything, but I assumed a cheaper cash-in sequel would be much weaker. Is it worth my time?

It is weaker, not doubt about that. I rated the original a 6/10 and the sequel a very kind 4/10, however I quite enjoyed the second one for its more comedy/adventure route than the more horror style the first one had. But overall, if you go in expecting a "good" movie you will most likely be very disappointed, however it might just be that you end up enjoying it.
I thought it was a good idea to continue on without Stephen Dorff and instead focus on the character Terry (Louis Tripp), and also we meet up with a possible romantic part in Liz (Pamela Segall) but it do get a little bit goofy and cartoonish at times, where we have two annoying stoner-bullies and who seems to keep on showing up as some kind of "funny" sidekicks. The special effects is not all that bad but compared to the first film, it is obviously a more low budget production and the story also seems a little rushed at times, still I would have picked it right up if it was re-released to DVD or a region free Blu-ray copy.

"Just wished they would re-release the second one, as it seem to go for a very hefty price, even for a used copy." I just thought I should inform those who like me want to see a new release of the second film, as I was randomly browsing through Amazon.com, just for the fun of it, I did a little quick search for The Gate II (1990) to maybe look if there was any changes with the prices and to my big surprise Shout! Factory is about to release it in 2018 on Blu-ray!. The only "downpart" well, for me is that it will likely only play on American and Canadian blu-ray players, and again as with the Suspiria upcoming release, I am not sure I will pay up for a new blu-ray player only because of one film, and hopefully it might also be released either with a DVD disc included or something like that. I really want this in my collection standing aside the first one. It is by far not a great movie but it do have a certain b-movie charm that I enjoy and I thought it was cool seeing Terrence back as the main character. I would have picked it right up if it was re-released to DVD or a region free Blu-ray copy. Well, I guess by browsing around, one never really know what to end up finding. Last week I did my usual browsing around and decided to look up if any of the original Canadian (old and ridiculously expensive) DVDs (of course been out of print for years) where maybe up for, a bit cheaper price than usual, however I somehow "stumbled" upon the german Amazon online store and found out that on june 15th, a german movie company or distrubutor named Wicked-Vision Media had released Gate II: Return to the Nightmare aka Trespassers (1990) on Blu-ray and that it also featured the film on DVD as well. The release had three different limited mediabook editions, as one can see below: I immediately went straight ahead for the edition which featured the original artwork/poster (not because of the 222 number, I do not care about stuff like that) but I thought the cover b (which is the one in the middle from the picture above) looked the best and the other two, not so much. Probably the most expensive movie I have bought in a while but FINALLY! somebody put this out to the european fans of the film and while as I said it was probably a bit too pricy, it could have been far worse. If I had went with the Shout/Scream Factory release, not only would I have to pay up for the film but also a brand new Blu-ray region free player as well, and that would mean I would buy a new player which I would only use maybe once every year or less. The DVD/Blu-ray combo arrived yesterday, very quick delivery and it looked even better when I opened it from the plastic cover. However, the best part is that it comes with some cool and interesting bonus features, a very neat booklet inside which is both in german and english. The audio is in english and german and while it says on the backside of the cover that the movie is only subtitled in german, that is not correct as both DVD and Blu-ray contains also english subtitles as well. The picture quality looks very impressive and the audio seems nice too. Will surely be checking Gate II out within a few days and coming back here for a little review. All in all, for fans or those interested I would recommend this release as I think it is the same as the Shout/Scream Factory put out earlier this year, as on the last page of the booklet it mentions a big thank you or something like that to the american company.

Wouldn't mind owning this but I think the asking price is other side of $20, IIRC.
