I liked it back in 1998 but I was a stupid kid still unwise in the ways of the cinema. It is worth seeking out the Criterion Collection DVD for the great commentary track. Ben Affleck spends much of his time doing a Karl Childers impersonation. Still, it's not nearly as boring as Deep Impact.

Saw it in theatres cuz I guess we all did. I don't think I've watched it since.
Looking back now, it was probably the start of awful blockbusters taking over Hollywood.

I'm not as harsh about it now as I was in years prior. But it remains one of his worst edited films and iits first half is too long with all these subplots for a cast where 50% are killed off eventually. Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, and William Fichtner are great. Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler are annoyingly schmaltzy; add the animal crackers scene to my list of 'bad moments' in film history.

Felt it was wayyy too long and illogical in theaters. Still feel that way today, but I will give it a look once every few years when I am in the mood for some cornball, turn your brain off kind of action.

For what it is, it's not terrible, but Criterion?? Still don't understand that decision.

I viewed that back in the theaters as I would have been 18 going on 19 years old back in those days.
I used to think it was a solid movie for many years until June 15th 2014 and now it's average/forgettable.
p.s. but I always liked it more than Deep Impact which I found to be forgettable, even back in the day, as that movie never stood out for me.

Big, dopey fun but yeah it definitely marked a turning point in summer blockbusters being dumbed down.
