Hagar sounds better when singing, although he's not great himself either.

I voted for "Diamond Dave".

Diamond Dave, although Sammy Hagar sings better.

Sammy is obviously the better vocalist. But that style of Van Halen is very different from the original and it's not a style I particularly care for. Though it did have a ton of success.

I like Van Hagar and Sammy Hagar in general, but I prefer Van Halen with Roth by far, and I also prefer Roth's solo material to Hagar's. I just wish that Roth had had a more prolific solo output.
I like Roth better as a vocalist, too, by the way.

I think Roth is a better fit for Van Halen, but I prefer Sammy Hagar overall.

With Van Halen, Roth is the better frontman. However, I like Hagar better as a solo artist, and I consider him a better pure vocalist.

With me, the Roth Van Halen is feast or famine. Most of the best tunes are with Roth. But then you get the "show tunes", Ice Cream Man, Big Bad Bill, Happy Trails. The Van Hagar albums are more solid, but not as many spectacular moments. And Roth was the better frontman.

But then you get the "show tunes", Ice Cream Man, Big Bad Bill, Happy Trails. Roth's affinity for (and talent for) that sort of material is an important part of why I prefer both Roth-era Van Halen and Roth's solo career.

I prefer Sammy solo.
