I'm glad you're doing these, but one thing irks me. That you allow five picks for inferior directors and only three for a giant like Ford.
I doubt I'll like the consensus, because Ford has his "noted movies" which are good, but his very best are not his "famous" ones. FORT APACHE is the best depiction of Custer in films, even if Custer is given the name of Thursday. It's easily Henry Fonda's best film as a villain. No one can argue with that, although I'll grant that FIRECREEK is a very good film. FORT APACHE is a 10/10 classic.
THE SEARCHERS was another I had to go with. Obvious classic.
Lots of contenders for third spot, and I suspect some of those I haven't seen are exceptional, but I went with Fonda as the good guy in MISTER ROBERTS.
