I'm pretty shocked by his passing, especially as he was shooting an episode for his series.
To, apparently, commit suicide when you're surrounded by a close network of work colleagues seems unfathomable.
He has commented many times that he finds travelling extremely tedious, and I think he once said he had a recurring dream, where he couldn't escape from a hotel.
I hope he didn't have a relapse.
It goes to show how prevalent mental health issues can be.
He was a great presenter, and I thoroughly enjoyed his shows.
It wasn't just about eating food, but how we relate to food, and how societies revolve around food.
RIP

Traveling is tedious but he chose to make a living out of it. He also made a choice to be involved with many travel culinary shows. I understand suddenly realizing you have bitten off more than you can chew but you call a time out.

I liked his program, although didn't see it on a regular basis. It was a wonderful way to introduce cultures to one another. I hope that CNN, or some other outlet, will re-air it.
I will say that I sensed something "heavy" in him ... maybe a melancholy, or an anger. I can't be more specific, and I have no medical training to back it up.
My condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and fans.
R.I.P.

I knew of him as he grew up a stone's throw away from me. I sensed anger in him constantly, as he was a cynic. The drugs did not help. Rest quietly Mr. Bourdain.

He had talked about his depression before; as well as suicide. I will point out that while he said the traveling was tedious, the enjoyment he had once he arrived was not.
