In the 80s and 90s we had bonafide musical geniuses in rock and pop like Prince, Michael Jackson, Eddie Van halen, Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan. What the hell happened?

My theory is this generation played Guitar Hero and Rock Band instead of trying to become rock stars. Pathetic.

Hopefully one day ignorant morons who think new music sucks decide to get off their lazy asses and actually explore new music and realize that there’s a lot of good new music and finally shut the fuck up.

Two clowns have confirmed my point by not naming any musical geniuses in today's rock and pop. Thanks.

You got musical genius today, but do they know how to write songs? I don't know, probably not?

The people you list aren't geniuses either.

There was much more genre diversity on the radio and television 15+ years ago then there is now. The problem is that hip-hop/r&b are now a monopoly and that's pretty much all that's being blasted in the faces of the youth these days. There is no musical inclusion anymore, only exclusion. Sure, there are plenty of outlets like iTunes, YouTube and Spotify to discover music but it's a matter of exposure. There is no musical diversity in the mainstream like there used to be; turn on your local Top40 radio station and all you hear is nasal-toned, robotic hip-hop. That's the key difference that some in this thread aren't seeing.
