On Monday, I'm going to take delivery on a new stove. And, it's a whole stove! The cook-top, and wall-mounted oven, in my kitchen, probably go back to the 60's (I rent a flat, and they were here when I moved in). They had to be replaced, but the standard size of those appliances has changed (bigger), considerably. Any installation of a new appliance was going to require some "surgery," to counters and cabinets. The landlord gave me permission to re-configure for a full stove, and create storage where the wall oven is. I'm so excited! - I have no idea what I'm going to cook first. I may order pizza, for weeks, so as not to get it dirty. - Also, in cleaning out the back of a cabinet, I found some old bottles of liquor. ( Divtal! ) One bottle of Amaretto has about 1/2 Cup left, which has turned to a syrup consistency ... it's been about 15 years. I haven't tasted it, but I hope that I can find something fun to create with it. It looks/smells OK - it's just very thick. There is about 1/3 bottle of Bacardi "light" rum. That must have been an old boyfriend, as I don't care much for rum. And, there is an unopened bottle of Grand Marnier. It looks OK, but I've outgrown any taste for such sweet drinks, so I'll look to make that an ingredient, too. - I love little racks. I use them for thawing, cooling and the cooking process, itself. I use them for elevating items that I've just washed, for faster drying. I use them anytime I want air to circulate around an item. Clearing the main cabinet under the cook-top, made me realize that - perhaps - I have gone a bit too far in collecting them. The Salvation Army will be the beneficiary of my zeal.

Congrats...I took delivery of a brand new GE stove about 2 weeks ago. I had an old 30+ year old Tappan and found it was leaking gas from a regulator. I had it quickly disconnected and went to the giant appliance super store ABT with left to right measurements so that any stove I selected would fit. The new GE stove is incredible and has taken some getting used to. Mine has 2 regular sized burners, one oversize burner and one small burner for simmering in addition to the center metal griddle for grilling, and of course the oven with an option for convection baking.

Oops ... I hit "like," rather than "quote." It's gas. I lived in one apartment that had only electric, and I didn't care for it. I feel that I have more control with gas.

UPDATE: There was a snag in the delivery process, and tomorrow (Wednesday) will probably be the day for installation. In the meantime, the contractor has crafted the most beautiful big, square hole under my counter! I almost hate to spoil it, by putting a stove in it. He's also doing a great job in creating storage shelves, where the wall-mounted oven is. Or, maybe, I'm dreaming the whole thing.

On the whole, very well. And, I am so pleased to have a "full," and fully-functioning oven, rather than the large counter top one that I had been using for several months. However, the delivery problem turned out to be only one "snag."
The burners, and the broiler were great, from the beginning. And, it is nice to be back to gas, over electric.
But, the oven did have a problem that required a couple of visits from the technician from GE. I thought that I was doing something wrong, because I'm new to "convection" cooking. Then I realized that the straight "bake" function was not coming up to temperature, either. That's fixed, now (a part needed to be replaced), and I'm happy.
I didn't want to try bread from my "starter," with the oven in question. I very much liked the loaf that I eventually baked. And, I'm still "feeding" my starter once a week. It does take a long time to proof, and I wonder how motivated I'll be to do it more often. I'm going to try a loaf that calls for a commercial yeast ... someday.

Gas is more immediate, in terms of control. Electronic coils take longer to heat, and .... more important ... they take much more time to adapt to a lower temp, when the heat is reduced.
