Because every time I've asked anybody for evidence of god's existence, their answers have lacked such evidence. Every time I've read or watched any source that claimed to have such evidence, it turned out not to.
In short, the claim "god exists" has not met its burden of proof.

The initial reason is that I wasn't socialized into religion. By the time I really learned anything about religion I was old enough that I literally said, "Wait--you believe what?!?! " I sincerely thought people were putting me on at first. It would take a lot to start to believe religion when you're coming from that context, plus the fact that I was already entrenched in a science and philosophy background by the time that I heard any religious views in any detail.

I was never part of that scene. It just wasn't a part of my life.

Technically, I don't believe there is a god.
Had I been able to select a second option, I would have said that I have never experienced 'god', and that is coming from a person who grew up practically living at a Southern Baptist Church. I 'accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior' at age 12 because my Sunday School teacher told me that it was time to do it. I felt nothing. A few years later, I went forward at a Billy Graham Crusade, trying to feel something. Again, nothing. I had no life outside the church except public school, and was never allowed to participate in any school activities, because I was being dragged to the church nearly every day.
Until I was old enough and far enough away from my parents, I had no other reality but the church, and still felt nothing, and was starting to see the inconsistencies of the bible.
When I went away to college, and I became aware of people who were NOT "washed in the blood of the lamb", a whole new world became evident. I learned about geology and biology, the historical accounts of the horrors of the Crusades and Holy Inquisition. My journey to agnostic atheism took a while, with a few detours like Buddhism, and a dash of New Ageism, but I eventually settled on logic, reason and scientific thought. The possibility of the supernatural was a real tough one to overcome, but I got there eventually. And my life is what I make it, it's my responsibility whether I thrive or fail to thrive.

Why? I was born as an atheist in a religious family. My biological mother had to take me out of sunday school when I was three as the priest couldn't deal with my questions.

There are probably as many different reasons for being an atheist as there are atheists. It can be difficult to group them into types. Stretching terms though in order to reduce the number of categories to a manageable level there are three kinds of people who believe there is no god. A fourth group "lacks" belief in a god. The definition of the fourth group is troublesome because they have traditionally been called "agnostics," and that term confuses many poorly educated people who expect the term "gnostic" to be meaningful in the modern world and the term "agnostic" to mean the opposite of that. The word "gnostic" is not meaningful in the modern world and therefore "agnostic" can't mean the opposite of that. It was merely used for lack of a better term for people who neither believe there is nor believe there is not a god. It is important to remember that a true agnostic does not join debates about the existence of god. Some atheists claim to "lack" a belief in god and yet join debates vociferously against the existence of a god. Those are not agnostics in the sense described here, and are either stupid or lying. The other three types of "atheists" (as in one who believes there is no god) are, elementary atheists, military atheists, and Christian atheists. I Elementary Atheists
The elementary atheist is an atheist because he does not read well above an elementary level. He cannot conceive of a god who is not anthropomorphic. A god that is essentially an abstract ethical system (what many people believe) is beyond his ability to comprehend. II Military Atheists
The military atheist is an atheist because the military is a sort of "god" to him. It is the supreme thing in his world. It is his foundation. He believes that all goodness, light and productivity proceeds from the military. He finds religion annoying because it complicates his ability to enforce his version of "reality" on the rest of the world. One of the reasons military atheists have difficulty persuading people of anything without military force is that they also do not communicate well above an elementary level. III Christian Atheists
The Christian atheists also have a version of "reality" for others to accept, but they use their political power more so than military atheists. They are "Christian" insofar as they have an interpretation of the philosophy in the New Testament that they really like, but do not accept that Jesus (or his father or the Holy Spirit) is a "god." They believe "we" (through political power and government) should be more helpful to the needy. Christian atheists sometimes have more ability to read than the other two types. Perhaps you can already see that many U.S. Democrats are Christian atheists, and many U.S. Republicans are military atheists. Of course no individual will fit a term exactly, but generally speaking their basic ideas have a more or less better fit. There are people who openly admit being military atheists and people who admit being Christian atheists. ~~~===~~~
Another reason people become atheists is that many "real" Christians give such a bad example of religion. It is often a contributing factor in the three types of atheists already mentioned.

I am an apatheist. I did not chose to be it just happens to be so. That means you might be intelligent enough to figure a lot of things out, but you just haven't gotten around to it. At a place I worked many years ago the boss got a circular piece of plywood, painted it white, and wrote "TUIT" on it. Then he said we have no more excuses, there's a round tuit.

When I got to the age of consent, I got hold of God Vogue Fashion magazine from my dentist's surgery ( I said I just wanted it for the recipes and articles) and decided that of all the uniforms represented in full colour, that the atheist one was sexiest, most colourful, tasteful and fashion forward. From then on it was a no-brainer as blonde atheists like me have more fun!

Ill say that those selecting "I'm angry at God" basically makes no sense because your opposing THE one thing that brings happiness in the long term and you damn sure don't want to be on the wrong side of that when you pass from this life into the next.
basically those who select the 'angry at God' thing ain't really atheists, because if they are angry at God that means they believe He exists.
also, that 'I want a excuse to sin' is not a good place to be especially if it's a sin that's potentially a mortal sin as if one is truly in a state of mortal sin when they pass from this life there is only one destination for them... hell and that's forever.
p.s. I am just assuming this is a serious discussion.
