TCM aired Up to His Ears and That Man From Rio earlier this week. And Netflix has finally has Cartouche available;a great swashbuckler with a moving ending. I'm surprised I don't hear much about Jean-Paul Belmondo, he was a perfectly solid lead in action/adventure roles. That Man From Rio feels like a Herge comic book that was brought alive.

Un homme et son chien ( A Man and His Dog) 2008 is Belmondo's latest full length movie to date.

I like Jean-Paul Belmondo's films with Philippe De Broca. Some of the lazy posturing and star posing he dealt in for laborious crime fillers like 'Cop Or Hood' (1979), 'The Professional' (1981) and 'Le Marginal' (1983) left me cold, but he was on fire for the first 20 years of his film career.

Oh sure, totally. That Man from Rio is a lot of fun and feels like a forerunner of '80s adventure films like Indiana Jones or Romancing the Stone. Up to His Ears starts out strange and the editing is chaotic but it's humorous. The best of the 3 again is definitely Cartouche.

Haven't seen any of his older movies, but I did recently see him in Young & Beautiful (2013), which was a great movie, and he has a small but pivotal role in it.

He was the initial choice for Guy Montag actually.

He was in a French gangster film called Borsalino (1970), which was quite good.
