Managed to catch Shoplifters, the 2018 Palme d’Or winning film from Hirokazu Kore-eda the other night. I’m a big fan of this director so while the film was solid/good I was a little underwhelmed as it falls short of his best work. It mines similar territory to a lot of his other films, in particular Nobody Knows and Like Father Like Son. Great performances as usual but lacking visually, possibly his weakest on that front save a few beautiful shots/sequences.

Looking forward to it. I am also a big fan, going back all the way to "After Life". I didn't like "The Third Murder" very much though.
"Still Walking", "Our Little Sister", "Like Father Like Son" and "After the Storm" are great.

I missed The Third Murder. Still looking forward to catching it sometime as it looks like he's tackling something a little out of his comfort zone. My favorites are After Life (interesting concept), Air Doll (possibly his best visually), Still Walking and Our Little Sister. Not a big fan of I Wish.
