Beware my shores and my borders,
where once I begged the huddled masses to seek sanctuary.
Heed no more the lure of my lantern,
which once welcomed wretched refuse, to their first breath of freedom.
Today I seek no more…
for descendants of the oppressed have become the oppressors.
I beg of thee, that still yearns for freedom,
that pain has driven from your home,
turn away from me, for I am shamed.
Turn away and don’t look back,
my face I cannot hide, my arms cannot embrace,
upon my land you will find no solace.
This pedestal upon which I stand, is now rusted and forgotten
and soon I will tumble in the sea and be no more.
Those I welcomed long ago, have forgotten whence they came
and have stricken my words from their minds and hearts.
This land which once proudly stood for liberty, is no more.
Let my light guide you from my shores
seek no more the land of the free,
for like the lost city of Atlantis
it is now but a myth.

The Freemasons put up the Statue of Liberty because they wanted to attract immigrants as a labor force now that chattel slavery was outlawed. My paternal grandfather was one of them. Bad as it is, it still has advantages over Communism.
Still, I like your poems. They're a welcome break from thefleetsin crap. The last time I posted one of my cynical poems on this board Cinemachinery, puvo, and Jack Brock tried to spin it as a suicidal plea for help. It's kind of nice to see somebody else doing it and getting away with it.

As for French.....well I tried to persuade Ishisha to come to this new board, but apparently she'd had enough of it.

Poetry doesn't always have to be about trees, birds, and flowers. Some of it can be pretty stark and grim.

I do like it when people comment though makes me go "yeah!". lol I can't even write proper English so I may not be the best person to judge but it seems your poems are more about meanings and symbolisms then getting the rhyme to work. I like the issues you depict in your poems.
