The Commuter Preposterous yes, but highly enjoyable, Liam Neeson's latest finds His Toughness as just a regular working stiff en route to the office... until he is suddenly faced with a desperate course of events: that to save his wife, he has to identify a complete stranger on the train and remove an object from their possession. Collet-Sera's (The Shallows,The Orphan) direction carries us along like an unstoppable train itself as the increasingly fraught Neeson searches the train for clues and people. The film includes probably one of the best carriage fights since Bond vs Grant. Since reinventing himself as an action man with The Taken, the always-watchable Neeson's annual B-thriller output has been of a consistency underestimated by critics of popular culture imho, and the present film is one of the highlights. He's just been announced as playing Philip Marlowe. www.imdb.com/title/tt1590193/reference

I liked it too. Abit too similar to Non-stop but solid overall. I know he's being played by Liam Neeson but it was odd how quickly his character became a skilled fighter in close combat. Vera Farmiga seemed like she was having fun and Colin McFarlane was a decent sidekick.

I didn't realize it was the same director as The Shallows, but that makes a lot of sense, since he again struggles here to make the confinement visually interesting. Instead a lot of the camera and editing moves feel like desperate attempts to be inventive but just come of a superficial and a bit annoying.
It's a preposterous movie, and the mystery and thriller aspect is all highly predictable. If you didn't know who the bad guy ultimately would be from the before the conflict was even introduced then you must not have seen many movies... but at the same time, yes, Liam Neeson's particular brand of every man action guy is generally pretty entertaining, even if the whole thing is ludicrous.
Also, I enjoyed a lot of the metro north train stop references. I know that train line very well. As much is a lot of it didn't look right, and in sure much of it was shot on a sound stage and at noon corresponding stations, just hearing the towns getting name checked was kinda fun.

I thought you were gonna say 'automobile.' I guess you could do bus, but it's already been done. So has the boat. Forgetting that timeless classics Speed 2: Cruise Control?
