Pretty much every American sport is going to be too many long and unnecesary delays and over coaching. Every American sport is over coached to the point of tedium. Train 'em during week and let 'em play once the game starts.
AFL- coaches have too big a say in rules. Coaches don't like entertaining play. They like having 36 players around the ball at stoppage after stoppage. If they get clean possession of the ball coaches like for them to kick it backwards to an open player, who then kicks it sideways to another open player, who then kicks it back to the player who just kicked it to him. If they're in front they can just keep doing this for 20 minutes for all the coach cares. End to end and run is what fans want to see. Pack marks, open field contests. Time for the AFL to keep coaches off the rules committee.
NRL- over reffing on things no one gives a crap about.
Cricket- big bats and small grounds.
Have to agree with all of these.
i still find it absolutely astounding that coaches have direct access to players ears via speakers in helmets during an NFL game. Not only do they have time to decide what to do, they’ve got people telling them what to do.
Union has the exact same problem with league, but old timers love it so it won’t change ie Scrums.
League has the same problem as AFL in coaches having far too great a say. Shockingly, both Wayne Bennett and Gus Gould have done complete 180’s and sometimes 360’s regarding different rules according to what best suits their respective teams at the time. For example, Gould was completely happy to have wrestling and 3-4 man tackles when he was a coaching director at The chooks over Ricky Stuart. Why - his side was built around it. But at Penrith, with big fast backs and edge forwards and rather small halves and a utility - Gus wants the game played as fast as humanly possible.
Baseball - far too many stoppages and delays. For fuck sake mate, pitch it while we are still alive. And then a pitcher who has thrown about 100 pitches in the bullpen, gets out there and needs 5-6 warm up pitches. And then when he’s ready, the batter has to tap the plate, adjust his uniform, and fix his gloves again. Repeat about 200 times and people think Cricket is slow......
The obvious issues Association Football, Basketball and Cricket have.
I'm probably one of the few who has no problem with a point for an OT loss in Ice Hockey. Probably because I follow AFL, which accepts draws (they only have 1 or 2 each season). I get why you have OT: for excitement value for fans, but let's not pretend scores weren't tied when the game ended. Both teams earned a point. If you want to contrive a result to send the fans home entertained, go for it, but that's a bonus for mine.
Hockey - the whole "where's the puck" thing, refs losing sight of it, and having to watch replay to see how a goal was actually scored. Shootouts. Overtime playoff games that go into the next morning so you either miss the game winner or are useless that next day.
College basketball - The fans, mass droning sound when the visiting team gets the ball, the rah-rah aspect, and overall poor play compared to the pros.
Baseball - pace of play (especially in batter box tomfoolery) and piss poor promotion of the game and the stars
Pro Football - Love of fantasy football. I realize that it brings people to the games, but sometimes I feel the games are played just for stats and how many points Carolina's defense gets you is more important than the game.
Association Football - Diving and the fact that the the big clubs are black holes that swallow everything. I would have like to have been watching when Ajax and Red Star Belgrade were relevant
College Football - BCS team playing FBS teams. Fuck me, but this sucks. It's like the Yankees playing a three games series in September against Round Rock Express or Gwinnett Stripers. Its' a damned joke that should be stopped NOW.
College Basketball - One and Done, but it looks like that stupidity is almost done. And the sport only caring about the Tournament and not doing more to promote the regular season.
Looking on, she sings the songs. The words she knows, the tune she hums
These days, teams that are not called Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea or Manchester United can't hold on to any promising player that they develop. I don't know what could be done about it, but I positively hate that.
Salary cap.
Not possible to implement in soccer. If say the Spanish league would attempt it, then the English teams would take advantage of it. It would have to be continent-wide, but that would be unworkable, as some leagues have much more financial clout than others. And if by some miracle something like that were put in place, what would certainly happen is that the top teams in Europe would form their own league completely out of control of UEFA and FIFA.
What I would like to see (but I know perfectly well that it is completely impossible) would be a FIFA rule stating that players must be at least 23 years old before they can move to a foreign club. Until that age, they HAVE to play in their countries' domestic league.

There's one I have which covers nearly every single pro sport: Players complaining about calls against them. Players usually make up a significantly (enough) portion of the rules committees... if you want umpires replaced by A.I., make it so. If you want pass interference to become extinct, go for it. If you want mid 90's basketbrawl (or maybe grade 1 gym class ball) guess what guys, vote for it.
NHL - Quebec City should have a team. MLB - players who keep hitting directly into the shift because you're fcuking amateur morons. You slap the other way once a week, they'll ease off. NBA - players complaining about calls & non calls, because rules don't ever apply to them. The rules their player associations have greenlit yes? NFL - receivers & defensive backs alike throwing their arms up for pass interference on every single pass play - THAT should be a flagged for 5yds. Soccer - diving in the penalty area.
Soccer - by far it's the almost constant diving and simulation, essentially players milking every foul by laying on the ground writhing in "pain" for 30 seconds or more. I realize players feel that the ref won't award the foul unless they go down but what happened to integrity, toughness, honor? I remember watching a Southampton player waterski behind Thierry Henry years ago by gripping onto his shirt from behind for about the full length of the pitch but Henry just kept running. If he'd gone down, it'd have been a clear red for the Southampton player but Henry was all class. Let's have more of that and less of two players brushing shins and both going down clutching their knees and screaming.
Diving in soccer is the worst aspect of any major sport. It's embarrassing and ridiculous. I love the game but hate this element. The slightest touch and these guys act like they've been shot, writhing around in agony for minutes on end. Is there a sketch comedy show that's done a take on this? Soccer players in a bar fight? Soccer players stubbing their toes on furniture? God would that be hilarious.

Baseball -- games are too slow, or at least too long; not enough action, which is exacerbated by the fact that the contemporary style of play is for almost everyone on the offense to try to hit a home run. I've got a huge list of ways we could change the game to keep a lot of the core play the same, but to speed up games and make them more action-oriented.
Basketball -- the "foul game" at the end of games should be eliminated. It slows the end of the game down way too much. There are too many fouls called in general. I'd like to see free throws tweaked somehow, too. Maybe make them (mandatory) three-point attempts, on a five-second timer, with more restrictions on defense than normal. Something like that.
Hockey and soccer -- not enough scoring, which makes everyone focus on attempts to score instead, as if they mean something almost as important as scoring. They should tweak net sizes and rules so that average games have scores for each team somewhere between, say, 10 and 19.
American football -- Way too many penalties called, and they're WAY, way too persnickety about minutiae when it comes to the rules. The rules need to be simplified, made much less fussbudgety. Also, they need to tweak extra points after touchdowns more--it's still too easy. Or just go to a mandatory two-point conversion attempt after touchdowns. If they didn't call so many penalties that would help speed up the game. Same with basketball and fouls.
Football. - Just score more goals and you will be called Best. Talent & skills do not matter any more in the game. Football has turned from art to physical, from entertainment to business. Statistics matter the most. When Zidane or Mathius & Maradonna were called best players in the world their was Henry, Raul, Shevchenko, Linker, and many more Top scores for their time. But now football has turned, in order to be the best yo have to score more more goals.
Every thing has turned into politics, Real, Barca always get favors in Europe & Laliga. English Teams always gets favorers in group stages in champion league. Every thing have turned into business.
Messi winning Baloon d'or in 2010 Was Big scandal, So was Ronaldo 2013 & 2014. Messi winning Best Player at world cup 2014 and Copa America 2015 was also Big Joke.

Rugby - poor standard of scrums in the modern game, Eddie Jones' nonsensical team selections for England, the fact the Hakka is allowed.
Football - money ruining competition, diving/cheating, softening of the game so it might as well be non-contact, defensive and negative tactics (looking at you, Jose), players caring more about sponsorships and brand than winning games, ticket prices...

Real winning 3 in a row means little to me. The real headline would be if they'd lost the 3 finals in a row.

Football and Diving - there is a very valid reason. Without the theatrics, fouls can easily be missed by the referee. So if you are fouled, make it blatantly obvious that you are. Add to that the cards and obviously, the advantages of free kicks and penalties - and that’s where the diving comes from. Without replays and needing a decision quickly, if you have caused significant pain when fouling, it’s more likely to be a foul and a card. That’s where the rolling around on the ground nonsense comes from. What is worse, is that for a significant number of cultures that play football, conning the referee into giving a foul when there wasn’t one is considered a perfectly legitimate tactic (especially if the other side is going to do it too). Now, modern TV coverage makes it harder to con the referee, but so far the video replay on contentious calls (which were supposed to help eliminate diving and simulation) has actually had the opposite effect. Players are realising that if you get a small touch in the penalty area, if you do go down you get a double chance at a penalty. The initial refs decision, and the video replay.....
Cricket - the slow death of the longform game thanks to T20 aka cricket on steroids. I don't think in itself T20 is a bad thing, but it's leading batsmen who play both forms to getting into bad habits at the crease in Test match play.
