Of all the sequels in the last few years, this is by far the biggest outlier really, for me anyways. No one was asking for a sequel when the first one came out. The first one was just perfect the way it is and never set up any sequel hook. I'll definitely see it as I really enjoyed the first one and I'm a big fan of Taylor Sheridan's work. Wind River was phenomenal! I hope its good. As long as it can capture and sustain those really intense moments like the first one, even if the story isn't great, I'll like it! Sicario was definitely one of the most films in recent years.

I've liked all of his stuff so far. It'd be a shame if this fell below expectations.

I'm going to see it. Admittedly I did feel conned by the first's twists, which is why I've not re-watched it even once. Still, very good looking film, solid tension, & good performances.

I'm pumped for it and believe that I'll dig it (or at least I hope so! haha)
It looks like they are doubling down on the action in the sequel and of course focusing much more on Del Toro's character which is badass. I love the part of the trailer where Del Toro just unloads an entire clip in some cartel guy . Fucking awesome.

Currently only 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. I'll see it but I have some misgivings.

Missed a screening of it last night. The theater I went to had a fire accident in the kitchen. The screening was at 7pm and the alarm literally went off at 7pm. I left at 7:30pm, but apparently, they got the theater functional again around 8pm. However, some of my association colleagues said that they just showed Sicario 1 in lieu of Soldado. So I'm glad I left then lol.
Anyway, I'm not expecting greatness. I want a good story with some thrilling action. Figure it'll lose something with the mystery of Alejandro now removed, but Del Toro and Brolin are great enough to carry an average movie to being good.

Watched it today. Give it 6/10. I gave the original 8/10.
Its an okay movie but the plot is kinda all over the place and it doesn't have a character like Emily Blunts from which the narrative is experienced.

My new favorite film of the year (so far) . I liked it so much and thought it was a very worthy sequel. 9/10 (I'll add some more thoughts on it later , still trying to wrap my head around all the shit that went on in it & will probably see it again to pick up things I missed) . Highly recommend seeing this in theaters ! Bring on Sicario 3!

The fact that I'm seeing people attack the movie for being too violent and hardcore makes me want to see it as soon as possible.

Even Chris Stuckmann said that critics won't like the movie because they'll miss the point of it as they'll get wrapped into the violence of it. He gave the movie an A-. I trust him so I'll prolly check out the movie this weekend.

I highly recommend it. and a lot of these film critics trashing this film are cracking me up & making me roll my eyes. Some of the critics are calling this film "irresponsible" & "xenophobic" lol. I'll give them the criticism of it being VERY nihilistic but thats the fucking point! I thought Sheridan's script & the new director did a fantastic job here.

You've convinced me that I need to see this today. From what I've seen so far it seems that our opinions usually align. Xenophobic? lol how?

Although I believe the final film is a bit different from Taylors script. Cannot believe he would have written something that has a few holes / flaws like this one does. But i believe that happened in the editing room. I mean these scenes> 1. the complete abandonment of the islam/muslim motive that they were setting up in the beggining? Writing wise that didnt make much sense for someone as smart as Sheridan. 2. so after he was shot and lost some blood, he walked for how many miles to get to the car with the dead bodies? Come on that seemed like a BIG strech, OR badly edited re the distance 3. the fairly sudden change in Del Toros character re the girl. Was Too quick..
other than that I really enjoyed it. 7.5/10 from me.

The fact that I'm seeing people attack the movie for being too violent and hardcore makes me want to see it as soon as possible. dont get your hopes up. there is literally no gore, and very limited violence apart from a few people being shot and only one from somewhat closer distance. its nowhere near the brutality and violence of the first one.

Interesting. I wonder why so many people seem so repulsed by it? Anyway, how does it rank for you among the other movies this year?
