None have really been convincing in the last 14 years since Brazil won in '02.... none apart from Argentina in 2014 of course, with that famous almost but not quite final against Germany.
Honestly though Brazil have been firing blanks, even after their re-structuring 4 years ago, Argentina need a complete overhaul and a team to work with Messi and not rely on him, Colombia are too inconsistent and dont have enough game changing players, same for Uruguay and Chile much the same.
I think with this new era of teams relying on one or two major stars and not exceptionally talented teams (like Spain), we just won't see dominance of certain nations like we did in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, maybe its a better playing field for the tournament as a whole but it is nice to see a flarey SA nation come out swinging and dominate.
The other, 'lesser' SA nations just don't quite have the talent through their squads to match the European or even African nations. Will a South american nation ever win the WC again?
*Note
Mexico is North American,my bad.

I'm guessing 2026 when North America hosts. Mexico isn't South American btw.

Not at this rate they won't. They're stinking up the world cup.

Bit of a stupid question given the prowess of South American soccer. They might not have won for a while but of course they will win again someday.

Argentina made the final of that very same tournament and were beaten by a goal in the 116th minute. South American teams are doing just fine at WCs.

Yes A better question is Will a country that is not from Europe or South America ever win the world cup ? I hope so. Staying with 2026, I see there'll be 22 of the 48 from Europe & S.America (not including the playoff which excludes UEFA) That's still a lot of roadblocks for the rest of us. The latest FIFA rankings have 8 African sides in the top 50, while South Korea, Japan, & Iran seem to pick it up at the WC.

They didn’t win the last three tournaments (even though they reached the final of the last one) therefore there’s a compelling case to be made that they’ll never ever ever win again? I think not.
