With the 2nd season of The Gong Show starting I felt like I had to ask this. Truthfully in my opinion it’s a fun movie. Yes it’s a dumb movie, but this was never going to be the next Austin Powers and I feel like that’s what audiences wanted from this.
If I remember reading somewhere I think Love Guru was a passion project for Mike Myers and he always wanted to do it,but was waiting for the right time. Mike seemed to be really enjoying himself in it and his character made me laugh a lot throughout the movie. If there’s anything Mike has shown me as an actor is he’s a great character actor. They may just be different takes on a character he’s always played, but he plays the characters so well that he blends right in. It’s why I love the new Gong Show. He could have just hosted it as himself, but he decided to play it as a British comedian which was so creative I thought.
The Love Guru may not be everyons’s favorite movie, but it did not deserve the hate it got.

I thought it was passable. I'll never watch it again but it wasn't completely stupid.

I don't think I could ever get interested enough to find out. Myers has had such a Jekyll and Hyde career.

I don't think I could ever get interested enough to find out. Myers has had such a Jekyll and Hyde career. I was actually kind of looking forward to him playing Cat In The Hat. I was a kid then so at that age I thought by putting a certain actor in your movie would automatically make it good. Years later I watched it. Ummm....yeah mike not sure what happened there.

I don't think I could ever get interested enough to find out. Myers has had such a Jekyll and Hyde career. It's what happens when you burn bridges with everyone around you. Opportunities suddenly decline.

It's very similar to the Austen Powers movies and doesn't deserve nearly the amount of hate it gets online. I think the problem is the Pitka character lacked the like-ability of Austen Powers.

Not really, as others say its very similar to the Powers films, its just that sort of humour had run its course

It is one of the worst written mainstream comedies of all time. It has a horrible story and is painfully unfunny.
It deserves all the hate it gets imo.
The Love Guru and Austin Powers are only similar in the most basic sense. One pulls off what it is attempting to do and the other I don't even really know what it is attempting because it is just awful in every sense of the word. I am shocked that anyone would even mention them in the same sentence besides the fact that they both star Mike Myers. It's like comparing a Aaron Seltzer & Jason Friedberg movie to a Mel Brooks movie. If other people don't think The Love Guru is THAT bad then fine, but I fucking hate it and think it's an example of everything wrong with the comedy genre.
