The reason "Power Rangers" (2017) will tank at the Box Office is that the remake misses the point of banking off Nostalgia.
Look at "Jurassic World". It did exactly what you want a retelling or reboot to do. It hits the nostalgia on the nose, made the T-Rex the hero again, added the coolest action/comedian of today (Pratt) so you're getting old fans and new ones.
This "Power Rangers" film looks terrible. I'm the TARGET demographic for this remake. I was 7 years old watching the OG Power Rangers TV series. I loved the Green Ranger. I went to theaters to see the movie. I bought the toys. I go to "Toys R Us" with my son and see the old school toys and get "the feels".
However, I have no desire to see this. It looks generic. They should have either made the costumes and characters exactly like the TV Series, or do a "Dark Knight" remake like the YouTUBE fan made movie. I rather enjoyed that. This has no tie in to the current TV series so those kids won't care, and the one main actor you hire is Walt from Breaking Bad, nobody cares. Spend that money on someone that will put butts in seats.
Imagine if if the uniforms looked like the 90s suits, maybe have the original Tommy as Zordon, something... Or have the Green Ranger as Rita's villain. Rita was never the main baddie, she always sat back while her minions fought.
I would have went NUTS if the trailer had the Green Ranger playing his dagger and the Dragonzord slowly rose from the water then a quick shot of the Megazord battling the Dragonzord while Rita laughed.
