Why is it that current directors have longer running times? You know when george miller made mad max fury road it had a similair running time to previous mad max films (2 hours).
When ridley scott makes newer movies they also have around two hour running times, just like his older films. However when somebody made the new blade runner movie: blade runner 2049 the running time was 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Older directors seem to stick to reasonable running times, newer directors don't or can't, why?

1 new directors equate running time with quality. They're dumb. 2 A 100 minute movie now runs 40 minutes longer because of the over use of CGI. 3 Super hero movies and such are the new "epics"

I don;t mind good movies running long.
However, I did notice how long Incredibles 2 was. It was close to two hours which has to be a record for an animated Disney/PIXAR movie.

A movie should take as long as it needs to tell its story and then stop.

I would say most movies should be between 1hr40min to 2hrs10min. occasionally longer or shorter is okay.
but with that said... if the movie is good I don't mind longer run times but if it's one of those forgettable types of movies, then shorter is generally better.

It's actually put me off from going to the theater a lot recently. I skipped Blade Runner and Infinity War because my bladder just can't take the punishment. I remember missing the Howard the Duck bit in the first Guardians of the Galaxy because I was one wrong move away from pissing my jeans and had to rush out as soon as the credits started.
I say keep the longer run time if you must, but if you're going over the two hour mark, put an intermission in there.

A movie should take as long as it needs to tell its story and then stop. I agree but i do think that there are times when a story could have been told in 90 minutes instead of 120 minutes. And even times when i think a movie needed more time to tell a story.

I was 28 going on 29 when I saw Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King in theaters with my BFF and wanted it to end quickly after Aragorn's coronation because I had to pee like a freakin racehorse by that point.

Has anyone noticed long running times for all new movies? Or is it mainly action films like Marvel crap and Star Wars crap? As well as sci fi like bladerunner?

I can't not have a soda at the movies, so if it runs over two hours and I drink the whole thing, I'm in complete agony by the end.
