Darn good flick. All the way through though I was sure Bill(Christopher Stone) was Tom Atkins.

It was good, but American Werewolf in London was better.

As a horror comedy I much prefer it to American Werewolf. Hard to compare since the Howling was a fraction of the budget of AW.

The two movies are constantly compared Yeah but it is as uneven match up. I assumed they were around the same budget but I see they were not. I think the Howling had more bang for the buck with its fx sequences.

'Wolfen' came out same year as 'An American Werewolf in London' and 'The Howling'. Movies do come out in threes? 'Wolfen' is pretty good also.

I really liked The Howling. Much heavier SFX than AAWIL. But AAWIL had much more heart. It was an updated version of Lon Chaney's 'The Wolfman'. I named a dog after Larry Talbot.

Haha but Larry Talbot is in the Howling! My dog wasn't named 'Lah' because of AAWIL nor The Howling. But it's good to haha

'Wolfen' came out same year as 'An American Werewolf in London' and 'The Howling'. Movies do come out in threes? 'Wolfen' is pretty good also. 1981 was basically the year of the werewolf movie. Loved An American Werewolf in London and also enjoyed Wolfen. As far as The Howling is concerned, I thought the effects and werewolf designs were very impressive, but never connected with the characters and found the plot kind of meandering.

He kinda does like Tom Atkins with the pedo-stache and all lol. Great movie though, and possibly my favourite werewolf movie (and yes, that includes An American Werewolf in London which is also great, don't get me wrong).

My younger brother and I saw it on the big screen. We were barely old enough to see such films without an adult buying the ticket for us, so it was kind of a thrill. In retrospect, I think the movie has held up pretty well. I loved the part where the evil werewolf takes the rifle away from Dennis Dugan and then throws it back at him, daring him to shoot, not knowing that it contains a silver bullet. Now THAT was justice, and I love to see justice done. I felt badly for Patrick Macnee's character. He was only trying to get the clan to adjust to the modern world.

Always loved The Howling. Never saw it as competition with American Werewolf in London or Wolfen - just enjoyed all three
