Best Buy hasn't had a decent cd section is about ten years, so no big loss...plenty of other places to buy them (Online and otherwise..)

NO MORE CDs At Best Buy !!!!!!!!!!! They are really dead. TL;DR version: Relax, you can still buy CDs on-line. Long version: CDs are alive and well at Amazon.com and their marketplace sellers. There are other on-line sellers as well, but I can get 99.9% of what I want from Amazon and their marketplace. For example, I recently purchased a CD by a Spanish band. I ordered it from Totem Vertigo, a Spanish seller, through the Amazon Marketplace. I ordered it on 6/18 and received it nine days later (from Spain!) on 6/27. Best Buy is being driven by the same market forces that drove the #1 radio company iHeartRadio, and #2 Cumulus, into bankruptcy. A study released last year notes that, "Younger music listeners have increasingly turned to sites like YouTube to discover new artists and songs." The iHeartRadio/Best Buy music business model only worked when the music cartel (major labels, mainstream radio and video channels, and brick and mortar stores) acted as the arbiter of taste. The music cartel controlled the supply. Music fans were all listening to a limited number of hit songs, by a limited number of major label artists. The limited number of hit albums made it easy for brick and mortar retailers like Best Buy to keep them all in their inventory. Now technology (low cost digital recording and streaming over the internet) means it's never been easier to be an unsigned/independent band and have your music heard by the masses. This in turn lead to the democratization of the music industry and the decline of the music cartel. In conclusion, relax, you can still buy CDs on-line.

Best Buy is overpriced as hell anyway. I haven't bought a CD from there in probably a decade, don't remember prices being that bad, but might come down to which individual albums we're talking about.

Best Buy is overpriced as hell anyway. Wow, when the place first opened up, I remember them being the most fairly priced businesses at least where the music selection was concerned anyway.
God bless you always!!!

They are really dead
Do you mean that CD's are really dead, or Best Buy? As far as I'm concerned, it's pretty much the latter.

Best Buy still here, people buying tvs and cellphones keeps them alive CDs are still here too. You just have to buy them on-line. I picked out a new CD yesterday. And I'll be buying it later today - either from Amazon directly, or from one of their marketplace sellers.

Honestly, I fear for the future of cds.
Cardi B, now I don't like her music, but I am surprised that she's signed to such a major record label, Atlantic Records, and her album is a digital only album.
And she's not the only one. I've seen a few other artists on major labels get digital only albums
I expect digital only releases from independent artists but not someone signed to Atlantic Records, A Warner owned company.
I hate digital. Don't charge as much as the CDs cost and give me compressed mp3 files.
So for Cardi B to be as popular as she is and her album doesn't even have a physical release, I fear for the future of cds

Perhaps they vastly prefer the digital format. In the genre I buy, there is almost always a CD version available. It may be an overpriced Japanese import, but it exists.

Maybe they'll be brought back, like the coal industry. Some places, Like WALMART, are selling LP Records again... So why not...

Some places, Like WALMART, are selling LP Records again... So why not... There's good reason for LPs returning. Much was lost in digitalization for CDs. Yes, But I doubt most people from the (Millennial Generation) or YOUNGER have ever used a turntable, or will ever want to... If the media was considered "dead and obsolete" 30 years ago, then bringing that technology back for just the over 40 Year old crowd isn't a wise business decision... And yet, it IS making a comeback... At least a small one. Blu-Ray players can still play CDs... And they will still be around for several more years. (Heck, DVD Players are still being manufactured) Is it a surprise that Best Buy is no longer selling them? Yes & No... More people don't buy them, than they do... and So, Best Buy is just focusing on their more popular products... But as others have pointed out, Internet Stores will continue to sell CDs for several more years... And many people will still buy them. Records VS CDs... Apples & Oranges. And I'm not talking about Audio Quality.

My son and his fiancee got a high-end turntable last year and have been buying LPs, and I think their friends have been as well. I gave them most of my Beatles LPs. Debatable whether they are considered millennials.
