Well I guess they ran the franchise into the ground already so nothing left but a reboot.

Sigh, welp there goes my hope for this franchise.
At least they'll still continue the continuity for Cult.

We don’t need a reboot. Curse and Cult we’re fine sequels that got the franchise back on track imo.

A modern day, high-tech Chucky would be a f***ing smart phone. Lol.
I was baffled at this news until I saw that the original film and the sequels are owned by different studios. Since the series is still going strong, I thought we dodged a remake, but life, uh, finds a way...

Y'know, now that I'm thinking... Could this potentially be worse than Seed?
I mean yeah, sex jokes and family troubles in that movie was bad enough, but a robot Chucky with superhuman abilities? GTFO

Sigh, welp there goes my hope for this franchise. At least they'll still continue the continuity for Cult. Yeah. As a TV show and I heard Andy and Kyle will be the main stars and I am far more interested in watching the TV show than a remake if this is true and I think it is a mistake to remake 'Child's Play' and not every franchise needs a remake. I mean just look at what the remakes did for 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' and 'Friday the 13th.' Fans wanted more sequels set in the original continuity especially for 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' with Robert England returning as Freddy which Robert was willing to do at that time and they ruined it with a remake. Not everything needs a remake or a reboot especially active franchises that are still going like 'Child's Play.'

Ironically, I have to wonder if the surprise success of the two DTV sequels inadvertently paved the way for a remake by showing there was still interest in the property. At any rate, I'll still believe it when I see it. They kept talking up a remake in 2008/2009 and it never panned out.

You're absolutely right. There's never even been a Friday or Nightmare film since their remakes respectively. It really is a franchise killer. The ones to survive this were Texas Chainsaw Massacre by having Texas Chainsaw 3D be a direct sequel to the '74 original and then Leatherface be a prequel to said original, and Halloween with the new film coming as a direct sequel to the '78 film.

As I said, at least there'll be the TV show to pick up after Cult. Although I'm also pretty mad they're not continuing with movies.

Both of them are average at best. 3D had its moments that make it a quality slasher, but is ultimately ruined by the screwed up timeline issues and a ridiculously silly third act with Leatherface becoming an anti-hero. As for Leatherface, it might be better but then again, it just doesn't feel like a TCM film at all, minus the beginning and ending. Plus, I hated the guessing-game it tried to convey by making us guess who LF is until the reveal. As soon as there were the two left, I knew it'd be the guy, not the nurse. Though, it does have some nice gore and kills and Stephen Dorff was excellent.

I agree. Remakes and reboots rarely work and often end up doing more harm to a franchise than good and looking at how many Horror remakes have flopped I am surprised studios are still so intent on making them instead of making sequels instead. I mean I have no doubt a sequel to 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' with Robert Englund returning as Freddy Kreuger would have been more successful than the 2010 remake - whether it was good or not is a different question but with Robert saying around that time he wanted to play Freddy again we might have got another two or three movies before he decided he was too old to play the character and a lot of 'Nightmare On Elm Street' fans would have went to see them. The thing that confuses me the most with the 'Nightmare On Elm Street' and 'Friday the 13th' movies is why there has been such a hold up with the movies from the 90s onward like we have seen franchises that haven't been half as successful as those two get multiple movies throughout the 90s and 00s like 'Children of the Corn' and 'Hellraiser' but for some reason we only got two 'Nightmare' movies in the 90s and 00s apart from 'Freddy vs Jason' which were 'Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)' and 'New Nightmare (1994)' and two 'Friday' movies with 'Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)' and 'Jason X' (2001).
'Friday the 13th' has legal problems at the moment which is why they are taking so long to make another movie but if it weren't for them we would have got another one by now 'cause they were working on one not long ago that was set to come out and then the court case come about and it was put on hold and the producers of that movie recently said they are going to make sure there is another movie as soon as the court case is worked out 'cause they know a lot of fans want to see another one but there were no legal problems I was aware of in the 90s and 00s that prevented them making movies after they made a lot of them in the 80s and other less popular Horror franchises were still going. Most Horror fans I know liked 'New Nightmare' too and would have liked another Freddy movie in the 90s and they could have made a 'New Nightmare 2' with Lisa Wilcox or Robert Englund playing himself since we didn't see him much in 'New Nightmare' and he seemed to have skipped town when he found out about Freddy. Seeing Robert face Freddy would have been fun.
I think 'Resurrection' killed the original 'Halloween' franchise and if they had continued on with a proper follow up to 'H20' with Josh Hartnett and Michelle Williams it might have kept the franchise alive but I heard that wasn't so much their fault as Josh Harnett turned down coming back for a sequel and they rewrote the movie into the one we got. Killing Laurie off so early was still a crappy idea though and that movie might have been better if they had kept Laurie alive up until the end and then killed her off. Back on topic though, there is really no need for some of these remakes 'cause they do nothing to help the franchises. 'Children of the Corn' is still going since its remake in 2009 too but the last two movies ('Genesis' and 'Runaway') ignored the remake which just shows how much it helped.

While I agree that the latest movies were far from brilliant I strongly believe there will be another 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' movie 'cause Lionsgate and Millennium Films were working on another one very recently but there was a limit on the time they could keep the rights to the franchise and they run out of time before they could complete it and now the rights have changed hands it has been announced there will be another reboot. Funny enough, the people working on the recent movies have said they were going to make 5 more movies so it appears people still have a lot of Leatherface stories they want to tell.
