Pros - Robert Duvall Martin Sheen and his narration. Its depiction of the madness of war. The Do Lung bridge sequence looks like something out of a nightmare. Vittorio Storaro's cinematography. Probably the best element of the Redux cut was the use of Technicolor dye transfer prints, resulting in exceptionally rich colors. The balls to pull off a scene like the Helicopter assault.
Cons - The French Plantation scene shows why it was wisely removed from the theatrical cut. It screeches the film to a halt and is better viewed as a stand alone sequence. Brando's blabbery. I do like the scene in the Redux cut where he reads an article from Time Magazine discussing the war, though. The ending is pretty anticlimactic. Still, I'm not sure what other ending could have worked.

Pros:
- It's one of the few modern war films that feels genuinely epic, like you are experiencing the Vietnam war.
- "Terminate with extreme prejudice."
- Random Harrison Ford cameo.
Cons:
- the slaughter of a real buffalo (or was it a zebu?).
- Dennis Hopper just sort of disappears from the film.
- Perhaps that's the point but Brando doesn't look like a trained hardened killer.

- Perhaps that's the point but Brando doesn't look like a trained hardened killer. Coppola has discussed this. He envisioned Kurtz as this imposing and powerful figure but with Brando showing up overweight, his introductory scene was relit to keep much of him in shadow.
