Any fans of the "South of Heaven" album by the metal band Slayer? How has it held up after 30 years?
While not the best album the band has released, I do think it's certainly an above-average album. Most people know of songs like "South of Heaven" and "Mandatory Suicide", but I think there are also memorable tracks like "Silent Scream", "Ghosts of War" and "Spill The Blood". I even think "Behind The Crooked Cross" is good.

Not their best album? Are you crazy? It's by far their best album. Rick Ruben produced it, man.

Very good album, but I prefer the one after it.

I thought it was a bit disappointing, after Reign in Blood. The title track is ace, but I can't recall the rest of the album at all. I never ventured any further with Slayer, after that.

Any fans of the "South of Heaven" album by the metal band Slayer? How has it held up after 30 years? I am a fan of this album, and I think it's held up very well. Although I prefer the album that preceded it ("Reign in Blood") and the album that followed it ("Seasons in the Abyss"). But "South of Heaven" was the next logical step in Slayer's development after "Reign in Blood", which had the band playing at the level of human endurance. Slowing things down and mixing things up was the way to go, and they perfected that approach on "Seasons in the Abyss". And the title track makes for one hell of a Christmas lights display!

Very good album, but I prefer the one after it. Me too. Seasons is one of the band's best albums.

I remember hearing it on a mates cool stereo and he was showing us how it went up to 11. Somehow it was recorded louder than anything else up to that point. Might have been an earlier Slayer album, my memorys fecked at the moment
I love Seasons in the Abyss

Definitely a good album, but the only track that really sticks out for me is the title track.

My entry point for the band, so naturally I'm a little biased. Has a little more breathing room than Reign, so I can see why some listeners aren't so keen on it, but I think it still holds up as a classic of the era.
