It is often credited as. This and Star Wars two years later are largely held responsible for studios moving away from the director driven film of the 1970s. Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate in 1980 made sure it was permanent, but for different reasons.

Yes. There were other blockbusters before like Gone with the Wind and The Sound of Music, but Jaws began the trend of releasing them during the summertime.

As we know them, yeah I guess. I see chatter of Planet of the Apes beating it to the punch, & yet 1968 until Jaws didn't exactly turn Hollywood on its head.
