Final boxoffice came under 76m domestic. Keeps being revised down. 😐 Ouch. It’s certainly not as catastrophic as the numbers for JL and *Solo*, but those are still some rather poor holds for this kind of movie. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the movie might actually struggle to hit $200 million domestically.

Not only did it barely pass the original tracking numbers, but the opening weekend estimates got revised down. This never happens for a MCU movie.
The odds are getting better that Skyscraper takes the number 1 spot this upcoming weekend. Only adding to the bad news.

Actually, it’s happened a few times, including with the original Ant-Man film and Civil War.

You couldn't have posted this in the box office thread? Haunted … you would be handy to have on the Classic Film Board where there are massive* quantities of OT threads and rarely an OT ~~ IN THE HEADINGS *ok... maybe not "massive" but , ya know … Hyperbole R Us, don't cha know ?

Very similar to this thread... I don't feel this is your best work. Consider adding a shocking after-credits thread to this thread to help bolster its popularity.

Wrong. It didn’t open worldwide so this is not shocking.

Theres been a couple articles where they said they're unsure if it actually will outgross the original domestically. It's still got a decent lead over it though.

Lets also not forget as Ant-Man will have a massive 60 plus percent second weekend drop, that July has been a huge month for competition. This weekend a kids friendly movie is being released along with another movie from Dwayne Johnson. A combination that is not good for Ant-Man. It only gets more worrisome as Denzel Washington has The Equalizer 2 coming out next weekend and will take most if not all of the IMAX shows away from Ant-Man. Then the last week of July the newest Mission Impossible movie comes out and will finish off any Ant-Man IMAX shows that it has left(if it has any by that point anyway).

I believe Spider-man Homecoming has the biggest second weekend drop at 62.2%.
Estimates have Ant-man dropping 62% so if actuals drop them it'd be the biggest.
Either way $283 million so far.

Monday, July 16, 1pm my first viewing. Maybe 14 ppl in the theatre. Biggest laugh was juice box & string cheese. Legit oohs & ahhs with the IW mid credits moment.

So flop then? Other movies have made more in this same amount of time and been called flops. The same doesn't apply here because its MCU? I wonder...

I love when a new movie comes out. Especially if their are strong fandoms for or against. You really get to see that numbers/statistics can be massaged and manipulated to which ever end. It's a pretty good glimpse in side the human animal. the glass is half full, others see it half empty. numbers are what they are, they don't lie But how people INTERPRET those numbers is ALL OVER THE PLACE, in some cases tantamount to a lie.
Two movies can make the same or very similar amounts of money and if they love one but hate the other the one they hate will get called a flop and the one they love will get all the lee way they can possibly afford it.
As of this writing Ant Man would be considered a flop if it was a DCEU movie or even a Star Wars movie. People would be saying "See? The franchise is fatigue!"
But its MCU so allowances are made like "the expectations were lower", or "It's just Ant Man, not the Avengers or the Justice League", or here's my favorite "the budget was lower", as if the general audience knows or even cares what the budget is.
Bottom line people aint going in the numbers we expect from bigger scale blockbusters.

"...not as catastrophic as the numbers for JL..." is not a statement that is borne out by the facts. Here are the facts as of this writing (7/17/18). Antman and Wasp: 136 domestic, 287 world Justice League: 229 domestic, 657 world (all numbers from Box Office Mojo)
SO when Antman and Wasp makes 229 domestic and 657 world THEN we can talk about it being catastrophic in comparison.
