She was diagnosed with diabetes about two years ago. Been on insulin and special diabetic management food since. She lost weight and was down to 11.5 pounds. The vet thinks she should be more like 13 pounds (what she was a few years ago). Now she's back up to 12.5 pounds. Hope that's a good sign it's being managed well. She gets checked again soon.

I am on my 3rd diabetic cat in 30 years, the previous 2 cats lived to 20 years, my problem was keeping their weight down because they were fatties and the current cat is on the fat side but he is regulated, he does have nasal herpes and a heart murmur but he is doing well, he has had diabetes for 3 years, he is 5 years old. I think the important thing is to feed them and give them their insulin the same time every day. He goes to the vet every 3 months to have his glucose monitored. He is on ProZinc insulin for cats only. Good luck with your kitty, believe me, great strides have been made in feline diabetes. My cats were never on special diabetic food, the vets I had just worked with what the cats would eat. My current vet prefers canned food because it has fewer carbs and more protein but my little brat still insists on a little dry food every day. He lives in his own "apartment" because 4 of the other 5 cats cause him stress and he wants to kill them. He does love my youngest cat so he get daily visits from that cat. You can only do the best you can but remember , diabetes is not a death sentence.

Thanks for the kind words. Hope your kitty continues to do well. Pro Zinc is what my cat is on also. Her numbers were pretty good last reading.

How's your kitty doing? Any new update? She went into shock early August. But the emergency vet saved her and her insulin was adjusted. She's still active and eating well. Thanks for asking. Sorry I didn't notice the reply until now.

Dang kls, I didn't know any of that. Sorry to hear it, but wow let's hear it for your quick thinking and the emergency vet staff!! Poor baby! As of now the worst thing I'm dealing with with my old lady is her deafness making her meow a banshee screech that would crack glass. Oh how I long for the cute little squeaky meows she used to have.
