I injured my back a couple of days ago, so I've been having to take it easy. I decided to catch up on horror films I'd never seen, so watched Frankenstein Meets the Spacemonster (1965) on Youtube.
Not bad. It has a sub-4 rating on IMDb, but it shouldn't. I'd say it probably should be around a 4.6. If you like cheesy 1950s sci-fi, then this is a movie for you. The acting is poor, and the scripted dialogue is laughable, but you can tell that the filmmakers had their hearts in the right place.
It's basically about a group of aliens who have come to Earth in search of "breeding stock" to repopulate their planet because all their females are dead. Meanwhile, NASA sends up in a rocket a cyborg-like creature pieced together from spare human parts, synthetic skin, and electrical components. Eventually this "Frankenstein" meets a space monster brought by the aliens.
It's a really wonderful time capsule from the 1960s, complete with several montages by throw-away '60s songs.
Highly recommended for all lovers of B movies.

Now you have time to compete in movie challenges I guess. I have seen a few Frankenstein movies with Cushing as titular character for the monster movie challenge on thb. The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) was one of them which is basically another adaptation of the famous story of Mary Shelley. The other was some kind of sequel to it Frankenstein must be destroyed (1969) in which Frankenstein does a brain transplantation on a former assistent. I like the gothic setting of these movies but I'm not really happy with the evil portrayal of Frankenstein in these movies. Those are Hammer movies btw.
I know u love Creature from Black Lagoon but not sure how much you love other creature or sci-fi pictures from 50s, 60s? I do like them in general.

Back in 1997, when AMC first presented "Monsterfest," they showed most of the Hammer Horror monster pictures. I bought a budget pack of VHS tapes and started recording. Every six hours, I'd change out the tape, no matter what time of day. That year was awesome because they had Whoopi Goldberg and Linda Blair doing introductions between the movies. As a result, I've seen most of the Hammer monster films. I'm a big fan. However, this Frankenstein is nowhere near as good as those. I like '50s and '60s horror films in general. In fact, it's unusual for me to dislike any horror film pre-2000, and is I unusual for me to like any horror film post-2000. I'm not sure what it is that happened, but the tone of horror changed in a way that stopped resonating with me.

What happened was, during the 60s gore 'n' sex trumped style and suspense as the main gimmick in horror films, facilitated by the eradication of censorship and the dystopianizaton of science fiction. Horror as a genre has never really recovered and, of course, although this postmodern aesthetic has been easier to duplicate, it suffers most from being horribly boring once you get by the "disgust" factor.
