Did Jeff Goldblum lose a bet or something? He looks embarrassed in just about every frame of this thing. Overall, a slightly charming but sadly unfunny slog. Worth it for Geena Davis as a sexy vampire, I suppose. 4/10

I liked Geena Davis in this, but I agree, the film had the right intentions with it's charm, but it was only snicker amusing. As a spoof\parody, it was just lame and not even clever or sharp. Perhaps they needed to raunch it up a bit, or make it more smutty or something. National Lampoon's Class Reunion and Elvira: Mistress of the dark, have this one beat out by miles. It just felt Mel Brooks-lite, which makes sense as the director worked with Brooks on a lot of his films. I wouldn't want raunch necessarily, but definitely could've used some punching up. I think the closest I came to laughing out loud were with the Michael Richards scenes. His parts in this reminded me of the much better UHF.

It seemed like it would be funny, and the premise has potential, but it was pretty limp.

I haven't seen it in a long time, but I liked it both times I saw it (once in theaters and once again later on video). I'd need to watch it again because I can't remember very much about it.

Grrr...I love this film. I thought it was really funny. Sure, some of the jokes fall flat but others work very well. Great cast, too. And, hell yeah, Geena Davis never looked sexier! She should've done more vampire roles.

She should've done more vampire roles. Completely agree, and I am sure Ed Begley Jr did not mind to have such a vampy and hot late night visitor coming by his bedroom for a little "snack". I have loved this film since I first saw it back in 2004 through a very cool looking VHS I picked up and while sure, the comedy is at times extremely lowbrow/goofy, however it ended up working like magic, specially with such a quirky and memorable cast. I mean, you have Jeff Goldblum (still not become a big star, I think), Michael Richards (same), Ed Begley Jr, Joseph Bologna, Donald Gibb (Ogre from the Revenge of the Nerds franchise), John Byner, Jeffrey Jones and then the best thing, three lovely and very funny ladies with Geena Davis, Carol Kane and Teresa Ganzel. I think this is one of the better horror-comedy attempts during the 80s, and for me is a big favorite along with Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988), Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988) and Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) which all seems to have a lot of similar themes/characters as well. After watching a lot of the classic 1930-40s during the Halloween October Challenge last year, I enjoy this movie even more as so many of the parodies had "went over my head" and compared to a lot of other 70s and 80s horror comedies, I think Transylvania 6-5000 is much more than just another "Mel Brooks rip-off".
