there was supposed to be one on HBO starring Carell and Gandolfini before he passed actually. Hmm, I didn't know about that. I'll be looking for more info. I hope they haven't given up on the idea. I think it would make a great story because some of the men's actions against each other (such as destroying fossils) would be unthinkable today.
Yeah like who would you cast to replace Gandolfini? Winstone possibly? Goodman?

H. H. Holmes
Aaron Burr
Mary Grace Quakenbos
I’m fairly amazed that I hadn’t even heard of Mary Grace Quackenbos—wow, what a story. Incredible that no one has made a movie or miniseries about her. Or about Burr, especially in light of the Hamilton craze. Just call it Aaron Burr, like that John Adams miniseries… Hey, start it right after the duel, make it about the out-west conspiracy. Even throw in some elements from Gore Vidal’s Burr. I think it would be grand. As for Holmes, I think I remember hearing that Scorsese and DiCaprio are doing a movie from Devil in the White City. Maybe I'll create an Aaron Burr

Because I’m weird, I’ve been reading Fawn M. Brodie’s biography of Mormon founder Joseph Smith, Jr., and—wow—now that’d make a great movie. Brodie’s argument—and I think I agree—is basically that Smith was a conman who started believing his own con. Fascinating stuff, with a captivating central character. Of course a movie adaptation would cause tons of controversy and have Mormons protesting in front of theaters, so a studio might not go for it, but what a movie that could be.

Mad Jack Churchill, who has been mentioned by another poster, WW2 commando for the Brits who often fought with a sword and bow en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_ChurchillEugene Vidoc (sp), father of Modern policing, father of French police, was a crook from 14 to 35, then became a prison snitch for a few years, and then became super cop who started plain cloths cops, used women. Both main characters in Les Miserable are based off him. King Phillip II, father of Alexander the Great. Cypress the Great, King of Persia. Lepidius(sp), Roman general, Julius Cesear's best friend, likely friends since childhood, likely deserves half the credit for conquest of Gaul, and when Cesear crossed the Rubicon, chose the Senate over Ceasar. Of all the generals who faced Cesear, he came closest to killing in what be Cesear's last battle.

Late addition
Carcrackitious (sp, very sp). Lead a series of guerilla wars against Roman in Britannia, escaping capture at least twice before being betray, sent to Roman where he spoke to the Senate and persuaded them to spare him, and died as a Roman.

There is a French movie about Vidocq. I haven't seen it, so I don't know how faithful it is to actual events.

If I remember correctly, the killer is literally magical.

Ludwig Leichhardt immediately springs to my mind. German explorer who came to Australia determined to cross the continent, became the first European to cross the northern portion of the continent, and who disappeared without trace attempting to cross Australia from east to west on his second expedition. There was a recent book written about his life, and many theories about what became of his expedition are explored, and a mini-series based off this book would be phenomenal.

Gavrilo Princep. Little of real history to work with I know. The man change the world in four seconds, maybe the most crucial four seconds in all of human history, just enough time to pull a trigger on a cheap pistol twice.

I've seen it but that movie is more historical fantasy (in the literal sense of the word) than historical drama.

Ah yes, he's the reason why we have Hentai: All because FF's driver took a wrong turn and the car didn't have reverse. Put the Archduke right into Princip's sights. From what I've read Franz Ferdinand was kind of an ass, but he was doing the right thing, going to see the soldiers who were wounded when they threw a bomb at his car. Would be interesting to put Princip into a time machine and take him to 1945 and scream "Look what you done!"
